Book Reviews of 1080 RecipesBook Review: With recipes for almost anything you can think of Summary: 5 Stars
There have been thousands of dishes promoting the wide ways to be creative with food. "1080 Recipes" is a massive collection of Spanish cooking recipes. With recipes for almost anything you can think of ranging from simple soups to how to prepare the quail for food, this collection is presented in the first time in English. Many of these dishes may be universal, but the recipes within provide a Spanish twist from Spain's long reaching cultural influence around the world. For anyone seeking a fine tome of cooking knowledge, "1080 Recipes" may be the pick for them.
Book Review: An excellent guide to Spanish cuisine Summary: 4 Stars
I received this book as a gift and absolutely love it. The recipes are easy to follow and locate. The organization of the book could not be better. Each section is organized by main ingredient, making it simple to locate what you would like to make.
My only slightly negative comment would be the level of instructions. This is not a book for a novice cook. The recipes assume you have a good knowledge of culinary terms and techniques. This is perhaps why I like the book. As a trained chef, I am tired of books that assume the reader knows nothing.
Book Review: 1080 Recipes Summary: 5 Stars
A fantastic cookbook with superb drawings! The recipes are easy to make with local ingredients. If you enjoy comfort food than you will truly be enamored with this book! If you are interested in traditional/provincial Spanish food you will also enjoy this book. You will enjoy the illustrations that compliment the categories/recipes. There are also wonder color photographs of the finished dishes that give additional perspectives. This book is worth every penny!
Book Review: This is the BIBLE of Spanish Cooking Summary: 5 Stars
I've been living in Spain for 16 years and can confirm that this is the Bible of Spanish Cooking. Every kitchen in Spain has one falling to pieces and when someone tells you their secret to a dish, the reference recipie is always the 1080 Recetas. I've been translating recipies for years for friends and family and can't wait for them to get the American version of 1080.
PS: I swear I don't have any stock in Simone Ortega's books, but wish I had!
Book Review: Great Staple for Cookbook Library Summary: 5 Stars
Wow! This is a really comprehensive cookbook with tons of interesting recipes. It is a technical book and many of the recipes take time to create, so if you don't like spending a lot of time in the kitchen, it's probably not the book for you. I know I will never make all 1080 recipes, but I really enjoy reading through the book and have been able to apply many of the techniques it presents to other recipes and other dishes I have prepared.
