Book Reviews of 1st to Die (Women's Murder Club)Book Review: An enjoyable read that will keep your attention Summary: 3 Stars
I read Kiss the Girls, Patterson's second novel, several years ago and thought it was a real thriller. My daughter, a Patterson fan, loaned me a box of JP's books. This is the thirteen one that I have read and only two, Along Came a Spider and Jack and Jill; books one and three, were above average. For those that I have read his first three have been the best.
The plot had a few minor holes and a lot of the prose seemed to be contrived to fit the story. The main story line was about a serial killer that killed the bride and groom on their honeymoon. San Francisco Police Inspector, Lindsay Boxer, is assigned this high profile case and first has to find the common denominator between these gruesome murders that were in three different cities; one as far away as Cleveland, Ohio. What was the motive for stalking and slaughtering these newly weds?
Even with these minor faults, 1st to Die was an enjoyable read and kept my attention.
Book Review: Wonderful start to the series Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first James Patterson book that I have read and I was not disappointed! His WOman's Murder Club series caught my attention a couple years ago with his 5th or 6th book but I didn't want to start a series with a book that late in it. Well, I just recently got around to actually starting the series. After I finished this book I immediately ordered #2 and #3 so that I can continue to read them. When I read a book I am the type of person that likes to be able to suspend reality when I read so the fact that their "club" is technically illegal and could cost them all their careers and freedom, I really enjoyed it. I see enough reality every day, I prefer to go to fantasy when I read. I liked the twists and turns in this book and enjoyed the writing style. It was a bit graphic at times, but in my opinion wasn't too overboard. Once again, loved the book and can't wait to get the next 2.
Book Review: Still Good the Second Time Around Summary: 4 Stars
I am rereading this entire series again because I enjoyed them so immensely the first time. 1st To Die did not lose any of its luster the second time around. Tho Patterson is not as detailed and educational as Patricia Cornwell, his women's murder club is entertaining and engrossing and I love the fact that the good guys (gals, actually) do not always have a happy ever after ending. This particular novel is the very beginning of the women's murder club and introduces the reader to Lindsay, a homicide detective, Cindy, crime reporter, Claire, medical examiner and Jill, a lawyer. The reader gets an excellent look at all four occupations. 1st To Die focuses more on Lindsay Boxer and the other three are gradually introduced. The case: a serial killer that chooses newlywed couples. Quite a shocking twist in the end too.
Book Review: First in the Women's Murder Club Summary: 4 Stars
I have been looking for books to read while torturing myself on machines at the gym. James Patterson books are perfect for this. They have short chapters (5 pages, usually), are written in a fast pace, have more than one layer of plot going on (main plot and at least one thing going on with the characters outside the main plot), and are told from multiple points of view.
I really enjoy this series of books (women's murder club) because they are from the point of view of a female detective. Kind of like JDRobb's series of books - the powerful woman who still is a woman is an empathetic lead, for me.
I've read a few other patterson books - notably kiss the girls (which completely freaked me out) and when the wind blows (which was a neato sci-fi ride), but I like this series best.

Book Review: Ist to Die Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first in the Women's Murder Club series and it is the first James Patterson book I've read. He is a popular and prolific writer, and this thriller doesn't disappoint. It may not be great literature, but it is easy reading with very short chapters and it keeps the reader's interest to the end. The reason I read the book is because of the TV series based on these books about four women -- a detective, a medical examiner, a crime reporter and an assistant district attorney -- who band together to solve crimes. They call themselves the Women's Murder Club. In this first book Detective Lindsay Boxer is also battling a serious illness and is involved in a romance as well as solving a series of murders. This is a good book to take along on a trip. It will help pass the time at the airport and on the plane.
