Book Reviews of 7 Minutes to Natural Pain ReleaseBook Review: Intriguing and Effective Summary: 5 Stars
In recent years many of us have become frustrated with the limitations of conventional physical and psychotherapies, and also of many unorthodox treatment modalities like acupuncture, homeopath and the "energy therapies" that often require a great deal of time and so can only be offered to small numbers of people. In response to these limitations several of us - working independently - have developed rapid methods that combine elements of several different techniques.
Dan Benor is one of the most original thinkers in holistic medicine. Starting out as a skeptical psychiatrist, he was intrigued and amazed by an apparently miraculous healing of someone who could not be helped by conventional medicine. He went on to analyze all the published research on healing, which he published in a series of books available at Amazon. (e.g. Spiritual Healing: Professional Supplement (Healing Research); Consciousness, Bioenergy and Healing: Self-Healing and Energy Medicine for the 21st Century (Healing Research, Vol. 2; Professional Edition); How Can I Heal What Hurts? (Healing Research, Vol. 2; Popular Edition) (Healing Research (Paperback)) (v. 2); Personal Spirituality). He also did research on healing during a period of several years when he lived in England.
He has now come up with a rapid technique for helping both physical and psychological pain that he calls "WHEE," a combination of aspects of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). WHEE stands for "Wholistic Hybrid derived from EFT and EMDR" or the rather more mellifluous "Whole Health - Easily and Effectively."
In this book Dan provides a comprehensive description of how to use his techniques to help you to deal with both physical and psychological pain. His methods involve first describing the quality and intensity of a pain, then identifying psychological issues that contribute to the pain, and then alternately tapping specific points on each side of the body while using affirmations and positive replacement statements. It may sound weird and hard to understand why it should work, but it certainly seems to be effective in many people. Dan proposes a theoretical model to explain WHEE, and I am not sure that I completely agree with him, but that is fine: it is always important to disentangle the empirical - "Does it work?" - from the mechanistic - "How does it work" - and any decent hypothesis is a good starting point for further research.
So will WHEE help you? That is difficult to say. Dan reports astonishingly good results, and there have been some research studies that seem to support him, though I am not aware of any that have yet been peer-reviewed. On the other hand, I have met Dan and he is a natural healer, so he is likely to get particularly good results from any technique. However, I am one of many therapists around the world who have tried WHEE with some very good results.
Nobody wants to sell false hope to people who are suffering, but if you are living with pain or if you are involved in helping others, you may gain a great deal by trying the methods detailed in this book. There is quite enough specific information to be able to get started straight away.
Apart from the detailed techniques, this is a very well written book that includes a great many well-chosen quotations, making this a delightful reading experience.
Very highly recommended.

Summary of 7 Minutes to Natural Pain ReleaseThough pain affects millions of people daily, it is one of the most mysterious and hard-to-treat conditions. Pain can have many causes, is experienced subjectively in varieties of different ways, and often defies the most advanced treatments available to modern medicine. Yet physicians such as Daniel J. Benor, as well as hundreds of other doctors and complementary therapists worldwide, are developing simple and safe ways to treat pain naturally. They have discovered that addressing underlying emotional traumas often leads to the rapid and permanent alleviation of pain. When emotional pain is cleared, physical pain often dissipates too.
WHEE is one in a new group of therapies called Energy Psychology. WHEE changes a person's bio-electromagnetic energy system and consciousness - and facilitates the healing of physical problems. In the same way that changing the position of two magnets makes the iron filings between them shift, the bio-energy field changes produced by WHEE often result in rapid and painless healing on all levels of a person's being.
