Book Reviews of 7th Heaven (Women's Murder Club)

Book Review: A Compelling and Enjoyable Read
Summary: 5 Stars

7th Heaven was one of the best Women's Murder Club books yet - much better than The 6th Target. Lindsay and her partner, Rich Conklin, are investigating a series of arson/murders targeting rich couples. The reader is privy to the crimes, the arsonists, and their rationale which makes for disturbing reading.

They are also called to follow-up on the disappearance of the son of a former California governor. Michael Campion, who has a serious heart defect, disappeared three months ago and the case is growing cold until a tip comes in that he was seen going into the house of a prostitute. The prostitute quickly admits he died in her arms, and she and a friend disposed of the body, in quite a gruesome manner.

Yuki is assigned the Campion case and finds herself up against a pitbull of a defense lawyer. To add to her woes, the prostitute recants her confession.

In the meantime, Lindsay finds she likes living with Joe but begins to take their relationship for granted. She also is attracted to her partner, Rich Conklin, causing an emotional yoyo as she works long hours trying to solve the two cases.

The other two members of the Women's Murder Club are barely mentioned in this book as the authors concentrate on Lindsay and Yuki. I really enjoyed this book much more than I did the previous novel. Getting into the heads of the teens makes for interesting reading if one can get past the gruesome description of the crimes.

The stories flow well, but the emotional struggle Lindsay is going through seems contrived. She and Joe have not lived together all that long for Lindsay to fixate on her partner as much as she does. I realize working closely with someone for long hours can increase the closeness, but why jeopardize a growing relationship with someone you love. Obviously she has committment issues as she has an engagement ring from Joe that is still in the box. Come on Lindsay, wake up!

The surprise ending will take a few moments to process, then one will want to think back on that part of the storyline to see if there were any hints.

All in all, this was a good Patterson/Paetro offering, and I am looking forward to reading the 8th installment of the Women's Murder Club.

7th Heaven (Women's Murder Club)

Summary of 7th Heaven (Women's Murder Club)

A VERY PUBLIC DISAPPEARANCE

California's "Boy with a Broken Heart," the teenage son of a recent governor, has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Michael Campion, born with an incurable heart defect, has grown up under the watchful eye of an adoring public. The pressure on Detective Lindsay Boxer to learn what happened to Michael is overwhelming. When she finally does get a lead, it's devastating - and for Assistant District Attorney Yuki Castellano it leads to the biggest trial of her life.

A DEADLY RASH OF ARSONS

While working on the Campion case, Lindsay and her partner, Rich Conklin, also try to catch whoever is setting fire to some of the most beautiful homes in San Francisco, leaving their owners to perish in the flames. Lindsay brings in her friends in the Women's Murder Club to help her find the arsonist - and suddenly the fires start raging much too close to home.

A CHANCE AT 7TH HEAVEN

These two intense cases bring Lindsay and her partner, Rich, closer together than ever -and put Lindsay on the brink. Torn between two men and close to an emotional meltdown, she has to draw on every resource to keep from being pulled under. Full of the stunning twists and emotional surprises that only James Patterson can deliver, 7th Heaven is an unstoppable new thriller from "the man who can't miss" (Time magazine).
