Book Reviews of A New IBS Solution

Book Review: A new hope for people with IBS!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been suffering from IBS-D for 6 years and the only advice I would get from gastroenterologists was to "stop thinking about it and it will go away" or that it was "all in my head". I always thought this was because they didn't know enough about this condition, especially since my symptoms didn't get any better with time (in fact got worse at some point). This book indeed shows that IBS is not a psychological condition, as many GIs would have you believe to cover their ignorance, by identifying the root cause for many IBS patients (bacteria overgrowth in the small intestine) and describing a treatment protocol.

I am looking forward to trying the protocol and I hope it works for me. At last, after all these years I have a hope that I may get back to my normal pre-IBS self!

Book Review: Yes, we are not CRAZY!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are true to yourself, you know that IBS is serious and yes we do not cause this by our own worries of stress or depression. Do you think we want IBS? This book helped me provide more knowledge of the new studies of IBS. This book is a quick and excellent read for IBS folks just learning about the disease. I am glad for Mark's work for if it were not for the folks of Cedar Sinai and their work, my IBS problems would stay with me forever. I've seen over 50 Doctors and only 1 figured out my issue. I would also recommend "tell me what to eat if I have IBS" cowritten by Dr. Christine Frissora. The rest of the doctors who are unaware of Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth should read this as well.

Book Review: This book merits your attention. It could likely explain the cause for your symptoms
Summary: 5 Stars

Dr. Mark Pimentel is the Director of the Gastrointestinal Motility Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. The purpose for writing this book was to declare a unifying hypothesis for the cause of IBS. Numerous research studies peformed by Dr. Pimentel, and duplicated by many centers world-wide, point to an overgrowth of bacteria as being the missing link which explains the symptoms felt by 10-20% of the population. He does an admirable job at explaining the background for this new theory, along with treatment options. After reading this book you are more than likely going to want to discuss its findings with your own physician.

Book Review: FINALLY RELIEF!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a must for anyone suffering from IBS. I have been suffering with this disease for 40 plus years. I was fortunate to get an appointment with Dr. Mark Pimental. He ordered the lactulose breath test and I was diagnosed with SIBO. Within 5 days on the antibiotics I was 90 per cent better. A year later I am still under treatment and although I get occassional flare ups, my life is pretty much normal. I can travel, eat out, go to friends without the constant worry of an attacl. Although, the diet can be restrictive it is better than always being sick.
There is help for SIBO sufferers, read this book!

Book Review: not for people whose IBS was CAUSED by antibiotics
Summary: 2 Stars

In this book, the author says he doubts whether there is really "good" or "bad" bacterica, and discourages the use of probiotics. I developed IBS 2 years ago after repeated courses of antibiotics wiped out the good bacteria in my system. The lack of good bacteria allowed Candida fungus to grow, and I developed gatrointestinal candidiasis, which caused all of the symptoms of IBS until I started taking the antifungal Nystatin. This book may apply to people who developed IBS after food poisoning, but it definitely has a myopic approach. I would recommend the book by Stephen Wangen instead.
