Book Reviews of A New Song (The Mitford Years, Book 5)Book Review: Doesn't quite meet Jan Karon's standards. Summary: 3 Stars
Not quite finished with this book I have waited so long to read. Enjoyable but like Timothy and Cynthia I am homesick for Mitford. The people here are not nearly as interesting as those back "home" and I miss the daily activity of Dooley. Had three brothers and he was like all of them up until he got into some trouble. But he is a good boy and will survive. In my mind there is something missing in this book -- can't quite figure out what it is but doesn't hold my interest like the first four which I have read over and over. Please take them home and write more books about Mitford.
Book Review: Excellent Listening Summary: 5 Stars
We just finished the audio book New Song as read by the author Jan Karon and we found it delightful. This audio book helped pass the time so wonderfully while driving on our vacation. This is the first Jan Karon book I have finished and really enjoyed it. I had tried to read a couple of the others and could not get into them. I would rank this right up there with Beverly Lewis' "The Shunning", which is also one of the best books I have read in awhile. Also just finished "The Red Tent" and it was very good. Highly recommend this audio book.
Book Review: A New Song (The Mitfored Years, #5) Summary: 5 Stars
The entire Mitford series experience can be compared to receiving a warm, loving embrace from your most treasured friend! The pages welcome you into an interesting, pleasant world, where solid Christian values are forefront and modern-day filth and profanity are refreshingly absent! The reader will come to love and care about Father Tim, Dooley, all the towns' people - even busybody Emma! Each book in the series welcomes you into the world of Mitford and invites you to stay as long as you can, with hospitality true to it's southern roots! I wish I lived in Mitford!
Book Review: can't wait for the next one Summary: 4 Stars
having read all four of the mitford books, and considering retirement ourselves, i looked forward to reading this one. father tim continues to bless those around him, but i found myself missing dooley and emma and the places and characters i had grown to love. surely there was more depth that could be developed for them in future stories? however, this one brought me to tears in the story of morris, the reclusive neighbor. ms. karon has a talent of showing people's need for God and christian friends. i'll read any book she writes.
Book Review: What's Next? Summary: 5 Stars
I have just finished "A New Song," the last of the Mitford Series, and what an enjoyable series it is!My only question is, "What's Next?" Amazon.com lists a new Karon book ("A Common Life : The Wedding Story") which will be available next spring, about the marriage of Father Tim and Cynthia. But that nice event has already taken place in an earlier book. When do we get a chance to buy the next in the series by author Karon about the future of the good people of Mitford and Whitecap? Hope it's not too long.
