Book Reviews of A New Song (The Mitford Years, Book 5)

Book Review: A New Song is a breath of fresh air
Summary: 4 Stars

Good for Father Tim and Cynthia. Cynthia finally got Father Tim to venture out beyond the great town of Mitford! They didn't get off to the best start with the massive storm on the way to their new home, but all turned out good. Poor Johnathan gets a wonderful loving home while the town takes care of his mommy and I think that was probably my favorite part. I loved how Cynthia, not being a mom herself did such a wonderful job with a sad little boy who wants nothing but his mommy back. This book had such heart to it. A very good read.

Book Review: my review
Summary: 4 Stars

Once again we meet our gold old friend, Father Tim with his wife, Cynthia. Only this time, he has been assigned as interim in a parish in an Island off the coast of North Carolina.

It has been a real pleasure reading this book and reading once again about the comings and goings, not only in Mitford, but also in Whitecap Island. This author has the incredible talent of making you feel part of this communities. You laugh with their good fortunes and you cry with their sorrow.

Once again, a plus and a great book to read!

Book Review: The Best Book EVER!
Summary: 5 Stars

My first impression of these books by Jan Karon were not very high because my grandmother recommended them to me. But after a year of non-stop reading, I have concluded that this series is really the most interesting, inspiring witty collection that I've ever read. This book, "A New Song" is really special. I believe that even if you haven't read the other 4 books, you ought to read this one. It's too good to pass up! I loved it! It's not just an adult book, it's a book for people of all ages.

Book Review: Such a pleasant read.
Summary: 4 Stars

Karon's lovingly drawn characters continue to charm, and the change of scenery in this novel adds a little life to the series. Her narrative threads get away from her a bit in this installment, but it's still a wonderful read and I will look for the next one - they're especially great on the train.

I also feel compelled to point out for the benefit of those who might be misled by others' remarks that I am a 30-year old attorney - and a non-Christian - and I still find much to enjoy in this entire series.

Book Review: Another Chance to Escape!
Summary: 4 Stars

I've read all of Ms. Karon's books. Like some of the other reviewers, I think I prefer Mitford to Whitecap but maybe that's because I know those people better. It's strange to talk of "knowing" characters in a book, but that's how readers of the Mitford books feel--like the characters are old acquaintances, if not friends. Anyway, I enjoyed "A New Song." Reading any of Ms. Karon's books is a chance to escape the sometimes chaotic nature of my own life and slow down for a while.
