Book Reviews of A Simple Plan

Book Review: From the bizarre to the ridiculous
Summary: 2 Stars

This book reveals the most incredulous storyline I have ever read and believe me that says I lot becuase over the years I've read thousands of books. How could a mild-mannered, ordinary accountant be transformed into a thoughlessly cruel serial killer? How could his wife - a mother and seemingly kind and thoughtful person, time after time, condone his actions? It is a page turner because we want to see who he is going to kill next and what bizarre actions will follow-not because it is a well-written, positively thought-provoking read.

Thumbs down x 5 for this one!!!!!!

Book Review: A Simple What??
Summary: 1 Stars

The premise of this book was very intriging to me, and the rave review from stephen king was the icing on the cake. Now i have to wonder if Mr. King even read this story at all. I hated each of the characters in this novel.I was unable to relate to or rationalize any of the choices that they made in the plot. I finished this novel merely to see how much further the author could bring this story down. Such a waste. Maybe it would have worked with another author, but there is no way that any of these characters can be considered believable. Id skip it if I were you.

Book Review: completely devoid of entertainment
Summary: 1 Stars

Why this book became a best seller is beyond me. This has to be the worst book I've read in years. I plodded through hoping something interesting would happen but it just got more ridiculous and depressing. There were no twists, or anything that redeemed the initial plot idea. Hank is a weak, stupid, brutal, and boring one-dimensional character. I found myself hoping he would eventually get what was due him in some form betrayal, torture, death.. Unfortunately the end is just as boring and depressing leaving this reader throwing it in the trash.

Book Review: Wow!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was everything that The Ruins was not. Exciting, violent and UNpredictable. With about 90 pages to go, I laid out what I thought would happen the rest of the way. Not a single thing was correct! I love that. (Ruins--see my review--was a typical "slasher film" of a book, and totally predictable.)

A normal guy becomes a mass murderer: it's inevitable and one thing flows in to another. Much darker and more powerful than the film, which lessened his actions. Highly recommended.

Book Review: A Simple Dark Story
Summary: 3 Stars

I can't say that I liked this book very much. It hardly seems like it was written by the same man as _The Ruins_. Although I suppose they were both books that basically consisted of one bad thing after another happening... I don't now. I thought that Smith did a good job of really getting into Hank's head, of justifying his motivations... but after what happened with Jacob, I just couldn't get reabsorbed into the story. It wasn't bad per se, but it certainly wasn't good! And the ending!!! Ach....
