Book Reviews of A Wish In Time

Book Review: full of giggles, old folk tales and wonderful characters
Summary: 5 Stars

In twenty-first century New York, Maggie is happy with her life; however, she wishes to have a baby.

In eighteenth-century Scotland, Magda is pregnant and very happy with her life. Then she helps the old woman the village declares a witch. The "witch" grants Magda one wish before the end of the trial. From 1718 Scotland to present day New York, the wish is finally granted in a very unusual way.

Ms Bradley wrote a fast and fun story that time-travel lovers will enjoy. How would you react to a change of over two hundred years? How about being eight months pregnant to nothing? Women of great courage must find the key to returning to their own time, husbands and lives. Moral of the
story, be careful offering help to old ladies!

A WISH IN TIME is full of giggles, old folk tales and wonderful characters. Auld Annie has her hands full dropping hints. Davy and David have a lot more than the usual husband to understand. As for Magda and Maggie... well let's just say... what a life!

Book Review: cheap take-off
Summary: 1 Stars

I consider this novel to be just a cheap take-off on volume one of the by now classic time-travel historical romance series,OUTLANDERby Diana Gabaldon. In terms of the more usual one-volume time travel offerings, I have yet to find any work with as unusual and detailed plot so magnificiently done as Maryls Millhiser's The Mirror. Although Jack Finney's TIME AND AGAINTime and Again (not to be confused with the TV movie SOMEWHERE IN TIME)is also very descriptive and highly thought-provoking.

I'd suggest any of these latter titles to the derivative boiler-plate A WISH IN TIME.

Book Review: I adored this book!
Summary: 5 Stars

I took this book into hospital with me (appropriately, as I quite wished to be somewhere else) and I am glad I did. It was totally absorbing. So much so, I had to force myself to put it down in order to have something to read after my op! When I thought about the subject matter, people waking to find themselves in another's shoes, in another place and time vastly removed from their own, I wondered whether Laurel Bradley could pull it off. She did, admirably. Never once did I doubt that that was what had happened, cease to feel their bewilderment, and see the bewilderment in the eyes of the husbands. The Scots accent was brilliant and the historical element accurate and graphically drawn. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this book. Well done, Laurel.

Book Review: Captivating Debut Novel
Summary: 5 Stars

Readers who enjoy romance novels, whether they are modern day or historical, will truly relish the debut novel of Laurel Bradley. A Wish in Time, the story of two women whose lives have been transposed through time, will keep you captivated from beginning to end. Bradley's sense of humor, attention to detail and charismatic writing style bring this fascinating story to life. This wonderfully-transcribed tale has the perfect blend of wit, history, intrigue and romance and is one that won't soon be forgotten.

Book Review: Touching story
Summary: 4 Stars

Fast, fun read. Well thought out characters, lovely, heartfelt story. I gave it only four stars because it's more like a short story. I really would have enjoyed it if the author expanded the story - letting us know what happened after the women were switched back to their original bodies. I wanted to see how each man responded to his wife's return (whether they truly believed in the switch or not).
