Book Reviews of ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your LifeBook Review: By far the BEST!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have done TONS of research on ADD/ADHD since I found out 4 1/2 months ago at age 22 that I have ADHD. I can NOT believe how awesome this book is!
1st: It is laid out so that people with ADD/ADHD can read it more easily. I didn't know that I do read things easier if they are bullited and such. And this book is set up like that. Very easy to follow - both with/without ADD/ADHD.
2nd: The BEST format as far as information goes. It has a story of someone who does something (that is AD/HD related), then has ways that person can help themselves. Then step two has ways that person can get help from friends and family, and finally, it lists ways a professional can help. It also has lots of different ideas to help get organized that are easy, cheap and not too difficult!
3rd: This book can be set down and picked up at any given point with out the reader getting lost - and we all know that that is important when we talk about this catigory!!! I keep a mechanical pencil in the book at all times and am constantly circling/highlighting/staring next to paragraphs and sentences! I always jot down little notes in the margins of the book and I love to go back and read through them again for reference to myself!!!
A MUST BUY FOR ANYONE WITH THIS FUN, yet CHALLENGING lifestyle (I hate calling it a disorder!!).... Please spend your money on this book. You WON'T be disappointed!
Book Review: echoes of "Conquering Chronic Disorganization" - superb! Summary: 5 Stars
I was daunted by the thickness of the book when I received it - I was hoping for a fun read like Judith Kolberg's book "Conquering Chronic Disorganization" which was more in a story form. This has all the makings of a textbook! Don't get me wrong - you couldn't pry this book out of my hands. I would, however, have liked to see more of Ms. Kolberg's enlightening thoughts and style from her earlier book transferred to this book (ex: I liked the story in the first book about the body double, it made more of an impression on me than this book did).
It is filled to the brim with REAL solutions. The authors claimed to offer ADD-friendly organizing solutions. They deliver and MORE. I was tempted to hop and skip through the book, but gems of information were hidden on every page - even in sections I thought didn't apply to me.
One suggestion to the authors: Please consider converting your info into a "study" program (ex, color coded folders for each section). I wanted to present this book as a gift to my ADD mother, but realized it is too much for her. We Add'ers need a more visually-friendly "tactile" presentation to refer back to make notes and such as we begin our journey of applying what we have learned.
This book is already a classic... and indispensable tool for ADD'ers. I am left with a new determination with skills in hand to improve my life. My hats off to you!
Book Review: One Really Good Book Summary: 5 Stars
This is one good book, one really good book!
First, the authors, an organizer (Judith Kolberg) and a psychologist (Kathleen Nadeau), explain and clarify what ADD is and how it affects your ability to live an orderly life. By the time they finish sections one and two you say to yourself, "Wow! These people really understand!" And having read their explanations, you understand better yourself. Many "Ah-ha" moments punctuate your reading.
The book is thorough. Organizing is a stool with three legs that must be firmly in place for it to work. They are organizing THINGS, TIME, AND PAPER. The authors take the second important step and cover these important issues well in practical terms with down-to-earth applications and strategies.
The third benefit of this book is that they have designed the book for easy access. In each topic they offer a tier of approaches. You are told how to approach the problem yourself (Level 1), with friends and family (Level 2), and with help from a professional (Level 3). They have other little visual tricks that make it fun to read and inviting.
This book is a powerful contribution to the world of organizing for the person with ADD or characteristics of distractibility. Thanks to the two of them for the good information they have made available.

Book Review: Perfect!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought about 8 ADD books in the same week (typical hyperfocus). By chance, the other 7 books came to me first. I spent about 15 minutes per each of the other books and got distracted by other things and they have been sitting on my desk forgotten for days now. Those other books were mostly highly rated and all contained similar, good information. Some were more medical and some were more practical. I would rate them all at 0 stars because of the same problem: I HAVE SEVERE ADHD AND THEY DID NOT KEEP MY ATTENTION ENOUGH FOR ME TO READ THEM.
This book should be the only one you buy. It really is amazing. Instead of spending chapters describing a basic ADHD problem, they start off by telling you in one short phrase one of your major problems and then they use the rest of the chapter to tell you how you should solve it.
It very easy to read. Extremely thoughtful in terms of how it's designed for maximum impact. If only the world were this well designed (not just for the ADD sufferer, but for everyone). It's just straight to the point and practical.
My particular brand of ADD makes it very difficult for me to write feedback reviews on my purchases. I write about one review a year. Listen to me on this one. Don't buy any other book besides this one if you are looking for help to get your ADD life in order.
Book Review: Being organized is an ongoing practice, not a sacred special event Summary: 4 Stars
Its important to learn everything you can about Adult ADHD, but while you're doing that you still need to pay the bills, return emails and phone calls and get your job done.
This book came along when I had been reading everything about how to reframe and think positively about my ADHD. While that work is important and ongoing, I also needed practical tips for organizing my worklife RIGHT NOW. That's why I bought this book.
It provides great, practical tips. The suggestions are specific and unprecious. The focus is never on being perfect. The biggest thing I walked away with is this realization: Being organized is an ongoing practice and not a sacred special event.
The authors also help you become aware of your default patterns and how to work with them. This awareness of unhelpful work habits and WHY I have tended to fall back on them has helped a great deal in getting more tasks done and feeling less paralyzed by guilt/anxiety. I know what I'm working with and feel more empowered and capable to deal with it.
This book is not sufficient in itself for working with your ADHD, but its a great tool for getting organized in terms of projects and administrative tasks at work, school and at home. I read a bit of it every day when I come home from work.
