Book Reviews of Ad Hoc at HomeBook Review: Keller's Home Cooking Summary: 5 Stars
"Ad Hoc at Home" is Thomas Keller's most accessible cookbook. He has the classic The French Laundry Cookbook , the bistro cooking of Bouchon and the "don't try this at home" Under Pressure: Cooking Sous Vide FINALLY, Keller has made something that can be great for the family, cooked at home, no need for fancy equipment or rare ingredients. He artfully recreates potato hash, grilled cheese sandwiches, the usual family-friendly favorites.
Keller's Ad Hoc restaurant is unique in Yountville. There's one set menu for the whole evening--and no choices. In a sense,it's like eating at home. Thomas Keller brings it home!
Book Review: The best.. Summary: 5 Stars
I Love Michael Ruhlman. I love Thomas Keller. I have loved all of their collaborations in the past. What sets this book apart is the very basic-ness of it. They have captured the difference between Ad Hoc and French Laundry in book form. I have enjoyed dining at FL more than once. It is sublime. The FL cookbook captures that. It is artistic and beautiful and frankly not something I would attempt at home. I just love looking at it. The Ad Hoc restaurant is comfort food ala Keller. The book captures that perfectly. I starting reading it the evening it came and could not put it down. I read it cover to cover! The stories were heart warming, the tips really helpful and I cannot wait to try the recipes.
As a collector of cookbooks and a fan of both Ruhlman and Keller, this book was a given for me. What wasn't was buying it for 3 friends and for my mother in law.
Buy this book.
Book Review: Great cookbook to learn from Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very good cookbook to keep and to learn from.
I like the inclusion of Chef Thomas Keller's bio, lesson learned, and guidance of cooking; encouragement and sharing of the tips and techniques to novice cook, young chef, and experienced. I love the photos and illustrations. They become the visual encouragement and inspiration for me to try the recipes at home - it also become an engine to appreciate the actual dishes ordered and served at the Ad Hoc restaurant (Yountville, CA) even more. I've followed and prepared the Buttermilk Fried Chickens, and they turned out wonderful. Now, the curiosity...I am looking forward to one of this Mondays to visit Ad Hoc restaurant to try the buttermilk fried chicken. (I have been to Bouchon Bistro (Yountville)). Hope you will enjoy this Ad Hoc cookbook, too. To view my Buttermilk Fried Chicken, here it is:

Book Review: Yummy recipes, Beautiful packaging Summary: 5 Stars
This book has some wonderful tips and a lot of great recipes. Most of the ingrediants can be found at a regular supermarket with only a few requiring a specialty store or an online order. Tonight we had the Roasted Chicken on a bed of Root Vegetables and it was a big hit. Easy to make, affordable and all done for less than $7 to feed a family of 5 with lots of leftovers. I love that this book gives clear and detailed directions so my non cook of a husband can easily create any of the dishes shown without asking me what every little step means. In this book Mr Kellar assumes that the reader needs lots of direction and he gives it. Another great addition is that most of the recipes come with this great preface discribing the dish and the reason why it tastes great. I would recommend this book to anyone regardless of their cooking skill.
