Book Reviews of Al Capone Does My Shirts

Book Review: Simplistic and Sad
Summary: 1 Stars

The whole book can be summed up in Moose's opening statement:

"I'm not the only kid who lives here. There's my sister, Natalie, except she doesn't count."

Apparently all they have to do is get rid of Natalie and their lives will all be better.
Poor Natalie.

I'm the mother of a child with autism, and I hated this book. I hate how it is assigned to children to read and permeates the message of segregation of people with disabilities in society. Kids with autism do not need special schools and to be taken away from their families, kids with autism need to be accepted and loved, and made part of families.

Book Review: Best Book Ever!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had read books about Alcatraz before this but this one got me sucked in.
It's about Moose Flanagan who lives on Alcatraz Island with his Mom, Dad and sister who's autistic. While his mother is trying desperately to get his sister, Natalie into a private school for special needs kids Moose is going around with the other kids who live on the island following plans made by Piper(The Warden's daughter) The first scheme was charging people to get their clothes washed by felons on Alcatraz and the second where she and the other kids try to meet Al Capone's mom.
Overall this is by far the best book i've ever read in my life.

Book Review: Very Good Book
Summary: 4 Stars

I liked the book very much because it was page turning to me because I like historical ficton books alot and some parts were funny and interesting. I didn't even know there was such a thing a prison island. It also helped me learn about life was on a prison island and it semmed preety normal to me. Some people in the story even said it was safer than living in San Francisco and it was much cheaper than in the city. It was during the Great Depression then too. The book seemed very real to me and most of the things in the story was real. But the question I have about the story is was there a guy named Moose Flannegan?

Book Review: A WONDERFUL BOOK FOR ALL AGES
Summary: 5 Stars

Al Capone Does My Shirts is a fiction story about a boy, Matthew Flannegan "Moose" and his family who live on Alcatraz. Moose is faced with many challenges throughout his childhood including having to take care of his older sister, Natalie, who has autism. Whatever the challenge though moose always finds a way to over come it.
This book is wonderful for all ages- children and adults. I highly recommend this book to people who like to read books that have many adventures. Gennifer Choldenko is an amazing author and I plan on reading more of her books. IF i loved it you probably will too.

Book Review: A Fun Book to Read
Summary: 4 Stars

Moose, a twelve year old boy, and Natalie, an autistic girl, move to Alcatraz which is an island. On the island are lots of jails. They moved because their dad had to get a job.
He got a job as a guard on Alcatraz. Moose and his sister Natalie find new friends and try to get off the island.
I like the book because it is funny and it is very surprising and suspenseful and fun. The end of the book is way more exiting then the beginning. I think if you like suspenseful, surprising and funny books you would like Al Capone Does My Shirts.
