Book Review: Timeless Classic!
Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book late in highschool as a distraction from my studies. After finishing it, I read the rest of the series as well as some other (though not as great) series by Tamora Pierce. Characters are realistic and well-written. This would grip any intelligent and imaginitive child, and would also appear to young adults.
Strong female characters are very important to present to young women especially, and this is just the book (and series!) to do that with.
Highly recommended!

I bought this Quartet as a single book with all the stories in one book and after reading it I was glad I had! I couldn't bare to put it down for a second!This book was gripping and exciting. The plot was thrilling with a hint of romance and a truly well thought out book.Weather you like action,romance or magic you will love this book! I personally loved it also because it was a thick read and i could really get stuck in but for those who dont want a long read but still want the excitment,the book lookily comes in 4 seperate stories. The book is based on a girl named Allana upon sneaking into the castle army (disguised as a boy) as a young girl, Alanna makes friends,lovers and enemys,She faces many challenges upon her journey to be a knight:the problem of keeping her sex a secret,Helping her friends and fighting to save lives. The combination of magic,excitment,action and romance is brilliant and my only objection is the fact that I cannot follow her adventures further!However atleast I can look foward to reading more by Tamara Pierce and follow the adventures of those who will follow in Alannas footsteps. This was a brilliant read and i could almost compare it to The likes of Harry Potter in the amount of excitment it has.Book Review: This book was great

When I first saw this book I thought it was for little kids. But my friend recommended it so i read it and I'm glad I did. This book is about Alanna,who trades places with her brother so she can learn to be a knight, so she dresses as a boy. In the dormitories of her school she makes friends as well as enemies. Among those friends is a prince and a theif. But when the prince's cousin arrives things change. She doesn't like him and can't decide why. But there are other dangers besides her feeling of the prince's cousin.
I love Tamora Pierce. She creates heroine's who are strong and don't need a man to rescue them. It is a story of courage as well as sruggles. Alanna is a character I will not forget. She is strong, courageous, and determined. Her friends add comedy, trails, and make the story fun. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys seeing someone try to beat the odds and root for them along the way.
Book Review: Go Alanna!

This is the story of a young girl named Alanna who lives Medieval times. She's the daughter of a noble and is about to be sent off to a mage and young ladies' finishing school. The only problem is, she doesn't want to go, and her twin brother Thom doesn't want to go and be a knight. Alanna convinces Thom they should disguise themselves and switch places. Thom goes to train as a mage, and Alanna as a knight.
As the book goes on, the reader likes Alanna more and more for her iron determination and emotional strength. Before she reaches the palace (the training ground for new pages), she changes her name to Alan and cuts her hair boyishly short. In the palace, Alanna is determined to be just as good as the boys, so trains almost double the amount of time they do. There are a couple close calls for Alanna when she is almost discovered, but she manages to avoid notice. This inspiring story with a spunky heroine is an amazing read. It's only 240 pages and looks like a teen book, but this is a read for all ages.
Book Review: Perfect for Tamora Pierce fans

I read this book after I had read The Immortals series (also by Tamora Pierce, I strongly recommend it) for the 2nd time. I was so attached to the charecters in The Immortals, I was afraid that The Song Of the Lioness quartet just wouldn't be the same. I hesitated before buying it, but after reading reading the entire Immortals quartet for the second time, I knew I just had to read it now or I never would. The book began with a ten year old Alanna telling her twin brother, Thom, about her plan. Alanna was supposed to be sent off to learn how to be a lady, and harness some of her magic. Thom was going to the palace to be a knight. But this was not how they wanted it. Alanna loved hunting, archery, and riding. She did not, however, appreciate her magic. It frightened her, and she she had to be begged and tricked into learning spells. Thom, however, had to be coaxed into hunting,, and anything else that had to do with becoming a knight. The twins agree on switching places, and go to tell there nurse maid, Maude. Maude at first is terrified of the idea, and decides to see what the future holds in the fire. Alanna also shares a Vision in the fire, of a terrible city. When Alanna asks if that was what Maude saw, Maude tells her no, and agrees to let them pull off the switch. Before they go there separate ways, Maude tells Alanna that she has a powerful gift (the gift of magic) and to heal all those that she wounds who does not deserve it. Alanna sets off with her servant, Coram. Coram is the only one who knows of Alanna's (referred to in the palace as Alan) true gender. Alanna makes friends and enemies at the castle, and at the same time is overwhelmed with information she will need as a knight. She faces the difficulty of hiding her gender, facing bullies, and fencing. This book is great for ages 12 and up. I did get a little confused at points. Sometimes they overwhelm you with too much information (there are plenty of names) and I pictured a great warrior at some points when I should have pictured a little girl(Alanna is in the Immortals quartet).however, Do not hesitate when picking it up.
