Book Reviews of All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome

Book Review: For those supporting AS children
Summary: 3 Stars

My grandson was shown this book by his parents on the advice of teachers. After they read through it with him (he was 8 at the time) they asked him did he have any questions..... he looked at them seriously and said "Mum.....Dad..... I'm not a cat!" We laughed about it, but with his literal approach to his situation and life in general it confused him. And considering his father is a vet I guess my grandson was amazed at the suggestion he had picked up that he was, indeed, a cat.
A good book for adults to understand, but perhaps not as good for the AS child to try and understand their situation. Ultimately it was his father's explanation that all people's brains are wired and that his brain is wired a little differently which makes him very good at some things others are not and vice versa. He now just sees himself as 'differently wired' - and not to be mistaken for a cat!

Book Review: Asperger challenged person
Summary: 4 Stars

This is truly a gentle book to learn about what Aspergers can look like. The tad down side is my teen read this and loved the cats but then said well all this sounds like personality quircks and that well almost anyone could have some of that stuff going on. Now said teen did see where I fit in in alot of ways in that book hehe so I would say job well done still. This helped me too for I was born in the sixties and well Aspergers wasnt common knowledge even amongst medical doctors bringing wee ones into the world. I needed a gentle way of seeing if this had anything to do with me. Folks I have been around in the last 2 years have brought up Aspergers alot asking if I have ever been labled with this. No I hadnt but I can see what others have seen and experienced around me in this book and it was a kind and gentle positive way of approaching Aspergers.

Book Review: Great for helping family and friends understand
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is not meant for preschool nor elementary school children even though written in the format of such. It is a great tool for parents and others who will play a role in raising and interacting with children who have Asperger Syndrome. I would, with processing, use it as a tool in treatment of preteens or teens with the syndrome, to help them understand what they are experiencing. The book will be an eye opener for some and serve as reassurance so to say for others. It will confirm observations of things that puzzled them at first, things they were not sure if they were actually observing. "Did he just..." moments will turn into light bulb moments. I wish I had discovered this book sooner. It may have helped me be more proactive in some instances. The book is so simply put but a so very very clear illustration if possible traits.

Book Review: Comfort and fun
Summary: 4 Stars

I normally dispise cutesy books like this and I am not really a cat person. But I saw this and started flipping through it, nodding my head-almost crying. It's such a well-written, simple book that is very heartwarming, charming, and funny. It makes finding more things to love about my son so much more fun! I've given this book as a gift to several family members to explain AS to them in a way that reminds them that there are wonderful things about my son, many of them can even be attributed to his AS. It's very positive. I also recommend this one to teachers of inclusion classes who will have a child with an ASD in their classroom, to help them and their students know what to expect in their new classmate.
Please note, this is not (nor should it be) an in-depth, scholarly work on AS.

Book Review: Hurt my Asperger son's feelings....
Summary: 1 Stars

I was excited ordering this book for my son since he is such an animal lover. He does have a very soft heart, which is probably why this book was NOT a good choice for him. My son is exactly for the most part like all the descriptions in the book, however I do not suggest you give it to the aspie child. I think it's more for other children to see to help explain your child. My son ended up balling his eyes out and it took him awhile to calm down after reading this book. Asking him why he's so upset it is to help him he yells because it's true!!! :( I suppose it was not good to remind him he does not have friends, or is different.

The book is cute, and I think again it could be positive explaining Aspergers to your child's peers. But I regret buying it for my son.
