Book Reviews of Alton Brown's Gear for Your Kitchen

Book Review: Always fascinating
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband bought me this book (along with the newest set of the Good Eats DVDs). Initially, I didn't think that this book would be for me even though Good Eats is one of my favorite shows. As interesting as Alton Brown is, I didn't think that a book just about kitchen tools would be interesting. Then I started reading it. AB has such a unique way of writing that I was instantly mesmerized. It makes me want to go through my kitchen and purge all the unitaskers I've accumulated over the years. I will get there, though it may take a while. As an added bonus, he includes quite a few interesting recipes (that correspond to the gear he is talking about). I will never again doubt AB. In my opinion, he's the best there is in the cooking world.

Book Review: A fantastic reference tool and very entertaining too!
Summary: 5 Stars

Alton has done it again! This is a fantastic reference book that every "home-chef" or even an occaisional cook should have in their library. Finally someone has put out an entertianing and education "cook book" that's not really about cooking, but the tools (or as Alton says, "hardware")you need to accomplish your tasks.
Mr. Brown's "Good Eats" shows remain as one of my all-time favorite cooking shows, and this book falls right in line with his informative, educational, and witty ways in the kitchen!
And if you ever get the chance, you've got to catch this guy in person as I did last summer at the Orange County Fair in California. Hysterical!

Book Review: The Honed Kitchen
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent information on kitchen gear. I've purchased some of the poorer, useless gear in the past and Mr. Brown is correct about why it's useless. I've also purchased some of the gear that he's suggested and he's correct about why it works so well. I'm a nurse by profession and he's correct about germs, cleanliness, gloves and handwashing. The reference material is great, the humor is welcome and his reasoning is clear and concise. Mr. Brown thinks outside the box in the kitchen, something nurses have to do in their work, and he has a fine, agile mind. A very enjoyable informative book indeed; I recommend it highly.

Book Review: Great help for the registering bride!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a huge fan of Alton's show and an pretty good amateur chef if I do say so myself. I've decided to hold off on buying any cooking supplies recently since I am getting married in May and can register for most of what I want. Alton's book has been a great companion in helping me decide what I'll need. I made a list of everything I want based on his recommendations and, armed with my trusty registry gun, can register for everything without getting overwhelmed by all the other options in the store. I really feel confident that I'm going to get great stuff, now all I have to do is wait for it...AAHHHH!

Book Review: Love it love it loveit!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm an Alton fan- he made cooking fun, the stuff comes out better, and this book on Stuff to Buy is really well done. Yeah, groan- but it is.
I lost my stuff in Katrina New Orleans- so this was actually a nifty guide for a new kitchen. And new ideas for me. He's actually pretty honest in this book about what works and what doesn't, as well as interesting uses for stuff from the hardware store. It's about creative multitasking and a lean kitchen.
The stuff on the show now is all about The Deal- but the book is about saving money and when to cheap out. I'm really pleased with it.
