Book Reviews of Alton Brown's Gear for Your KitchenBook Review: Great Content, Too Bad It's Unreadable! Summary: 2 Stars
Alton Brown's my favorite cooking expert, and his wit is evident...if you can read it. This bood was designed, apparently, as a high-school project: Multiple pastels, reversed out recipe text in teentsy fonts, and a lousy text-size/leading ratio makes this book very hard to read. I'll never get as much benefit out of it as I could have, had not a rand amateur gotten ahold of the page layout. The book is a solid 5 stars; the design and layout are 0 stars, which renders it a waste of money to me.
Book Review: Fun, simple, and very informative Summary: 5 Stars
Alton Brown's books are the few cooking oriented books I've actually read cover to cover, then refer to again later. He advocates simplicity, explains clearly why he would choose a particular cooking implement over another (often more costly) one, and does it with fun prose. He appeals to me particularly because if told the "why' of something (which he always does), I am much more likely to remember and use the advice.
Book Review: Gear is Great Summary: 5 Stars
If you're an Alton Brown fan, you'll love this book. It's so...Alton: Packed with info and written in his witty, if not down-right funny style. It's made me proud of some of my kitchen gear selections and has me a bit embarrassed by and getting rid of a lot of clutter. This will be my reference guide for buying any new cooking equipment.
Book Review: Alton Brown and Kitchen Gear Summary: 5 Stars
Alton Brown is well spoken, fun and intelligent. This book is helpful for the person who just can't decide on what stuff to buy for the kitchen. There is just so much out there and he eliminates the nonsense and gives good advice. He is so practical and sensible! Definitely a fun book to have...and you learn a lot too!!!
Book Review: The gear suggestions are nice, the reasons behind them are even better. Summary: 5 Stars
I have always enjoyed how Alton Brown not only goes through the how, but also takes time to explain the why. In this book he goes through quite a bit of his preferred kitchen gear and then explains why he prefers it. A great read for anyone wanting to improve their kitchen and their cooking.
