Book Review: Sweet and true

This is a delightful book with pretty illustrations that my 6-year-old enjoyed.
Contrary to what some people claim, it is not a political book. It advocates for nothing. It makes no claims about the penguins' sexual orientations. It is the factual telling of things that objectively happened. Two male penguins partnered, made a nest, and tried to hatch a stone. When they were given an egg to care for, they hatched it and raised the chick as competently as the male-female penguin couples around them did. Fact. It also mentions in passing that people live in different kinds of families, which is a fact too, whether you like or dislike that fact.
I'm not sure why some reviewers felt the text was dry or boring. It was simple and factual, but it kept my squirmy kid interested. The illustrations of Tango hatching are absolutely adorable.
