Book Review: Going GREEN
Summary: 3 Stars
I didn't really like this book. She was acting like planting a garden and eating just the food in her community was a big deal. Those of us who live in rural areas....especially the South do this on a regular basis. We have a garden, we can, freeze, dry our food yearly. The part that blew me away was she was very into her asparagus garden. Come on. Asparagus only produce a couple of weeks a year.....those of us with gardens need something that will give out veggies and fruit for months at a time.
But.... I can see how someone coming from the desert into a lush environment would want to go 'green' but NOT at the expense of your family's health. They started their project BEFORE they even planted their garden. hmmmmm.
Book was well written. A 'city' person would enjoy it. But since I live it, it was difficult for me to see and put into words what I have been doing for decades.

Their good-humored search yields surprising discoveries about turkey sex life and overly zealous zucchini plants, en route to a food culture that's better for the neighborhood and also better on the table.
