Book Reviews of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young GirlBook Review: Devastatingly emotional and heartfelt. Summary: 5 Stars
"Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl" has been with me for nearly 10-years. I first read this book at the age of ten, again at thirteen, and I've just read it again. My first review, written nearly three-years-ago, was written in haste, as I just wanted to add reviews to my About You Area. I first read it at the age of ten for school, after a teacher noticed my immense interest in the Holocaust (which lasted for nearly six-years straight). When I read it, I was amazed by this girl who seemed so much older than myself (at the time, a thirteen/fourteen/fifteen-year-old seemed greatly older) - a girl who lived the most effervescent years of her life in near solitary, only to be killed after yearning so much from herself and life. I read it again three years later, at the age of thirteen - the age Anne Frank started her diary. It was then that I felt a true connection with her, as we shared the same views about our parents, school, writing, and life. I felt one with her, and my fascination with the Holocaust deepened, sending me on a whirlwind of research and learning more about the Jewish religion. I kept this book on my bookshelf for years, and when it was chosen as a selection in the book club I am apart of, I was overwhelmed with excitement, wondering what I would take away with it, years after my last two readings. I was able to see the girlish immaturity of Anne Frank, which had seemed so mature when I had last read it, and I saw the immense emotional distraught she was experiencing, and how adults say everything is a "phase"; whether an outburst is or not, they should be dealt with seriously. I was also able to appreciate her fantastic writing skills and thought provoking deliberations. People say that this book does not portray the horrors of the Holocaust. This diary does, in the most haunting way. We can read inside the emotional thoughts of a young girl, when she herself was hidden away from the world - a girl who did not truly understand what the world was like for Jews, and what her fate would turn out to be, as she was hidden away in what was thought of as a safe refuge. People think that if a book does not deal directly with a gas chamber or a concentration camp, then it is not about the Holocaust. How wrong they are! This is not a book, but a girl's life written down in ink on pages, and it boggles my mind how people can be utterly disrespectable and say it's "boring" and "just a teen girl's musings." I implore you to take a closer look, and see if you could so eloquently put your thoughts and fears about things we do in our lives everyday (learn, use the lavatory, cook and eat), only minus the enormous, impending fear that life could end with one knock on your door (a fear I hope we never have to experience). I recommend this gut-wrenching diary.
Book Review: an AWESOOME REVIEW (DUH, it's by ME) Summary: 5 Stars
THe diary of a young girl
I chose to read Anne Frank: The diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, translated from the Dutch by B.M. Mooyaart-doubleday. I chose to read this book because I enjoy reading history about World War one. I happened to know that Anne Frank's diary was a historical record. I thought it would be interesting to know how she lived her years in hiding.
This book takes place during World War two, in Germany. Hitler was the president of Germany. Since Anne was Jewish, Anne and her family had to go into hiding. In my opinion, Hitler was an evil man, wanting to kill people, just because they were Jews! The book tells about Anne's difficult life in hiding with her family, a man named Dussel and the Vaan Dan family of three.
Life in hiding was not at all easy. You had to be cautious, because there were people living under them. Not much noise was allowed. The food wasn't exactly the best you could get. Most of the time, they had to eat almost the same type of food morning, lunch and dinner for about a week! Sometimes, rotten vegetables had to be served because of the expense and shortage! And, it's a treat to eat an egg, yogurt and jam!
Another difficulty is living life itself. It gets boring to be shut in a place, you can't go outside, you basically only have one friend, the meals aren't what you are used to, and you live in terror of being discovered. It's very sad to see other poor Jewish people being dragged away to concentration camps. Life. A big difficulty, living in a war.
In the beginning of this book, I saw several pictures of Anne. I also saw some parts of her scrapbook and codes she invented. That helped me see her character better, for Anne has an interesting character. She is a "chatterbox" and an outgoing person. She wasn't at all used to this new life. She confided in her diary with all her feelings. She felt the only "person" she could trust was kitty, her diary. That is why her diary is one of the best books I have read; it has true thoughts and feelings in it.
Non-fiction is read very differently from fiction. Non-fiction is all true. You have to slurp up the facts, digest them into your brain. You don't really have much reaction to the book, unless it's about a person, like I did. You would really stop and think about it, because it actually happened. That's how you read nonfiction.
Through all of Anne's sufferings, we learn something. Make the most out of life, for you never know when you might have to suffer, in any way. Life is a privilege, accept it as it is. For life is a gift, that not many can or will know the pleasure of it.

Book Review: A diary that truly depicted War... Summary: 4 Stars
I earnestly almost cried after reading this book.I was 13,the same age as Anne's when she started writing her diary, whom she called "kitty".For those who have no idea who Anne Frank is,she is a Jewish girl and the youngest of two girls. Her father was successful businessman...and the family led a happy and wonderful life after settling down in the bustling city of Amsterdam, that was until Adolf Hitler started the Nazis. The Nazis was an anti-Jew operation, where they would capture Jewish men and tortured them. The women and young and old were not let off either, many were sent to concentration camps, where living conditions there were so bad, many died of diseases rather than the slow torturings. It was at this time that Mr Frank decided to go into hiding with his family. With some of his kind-hearted co-workers,they managed to perfect a secret hideout.Anne, her mother and sister Margot began moving into the hideout, which was located just behind the office.Joining them were the Van Dans (not sure if spelling is right)who had a son named Peter and a doctor.Life was very tough, for living behind the office with barely a bookshelf as a wall means not making loud noises. No one must know of their existense,so all everybody could do is to crept round their area softly,tip-toeing and even speaking in hush-whistle. For almost 2 years, that's the life of Anne.A growing teenager, she could not go out to the streets to watch a movie, play with her friends or even talk to boys, for that means getting caught by the Nazis. It was also round this time that Anne had one true friend where she can confide everything to:kitty, her diary. In her diary, she wrote of how talkative she was in class(she went to school before the hiding),how she hates her mother when the latter compared her to her sister Margot, how she detested Mrs Van Dam...and her deepest thoughts on growing up in a secret hideout. She also shared about her crush on Peter, who also liked her. Anne,as we could see,was a normal girl, someone who detested writing, someone who likes a boy and someone who wants to grow up being an author.Well, you could say she is one now, with her diary published after the war, which was later translated to more than 50 languages and sold millions worldwide...but the young girl, unlike her diary, did not survived through the war,for she was captured from her hideout one fine day.Mrs Frank,Margot, the doctor, the Van Dams and Anne herself, all died. All except for Mr Frank himself, who survived... By the way, a little unknown fact about her Anne:her real name is Annelies Marie Frank.
Book Review: It will Touch the Hearts of Millions Summary: 5 Stars
Ever feel like there's no way out, that you're trapped inside a world that you can't escape? Well if so, then you might be able to relate to the book The Diary of Anne Frank.
In her diary Anne spills about everyday needs, problems, scares and even encounters with love itself; until her whole world changes. In this dramatic and riveting diary Anne tells how her world turned upside down. It's June 1942, in Amsterdam, the Frank family is living in a very nice and quaint home every one is peaceful and content and unaware of the fate that was in store for them. All but one family member was oblivious to what was happening around them, that one was Mr. Otto Frank himself; taking clues he found here and there he pieced things together and quickly decided to give personal belongings to trustful friends and neighbors and moves his family into safe hiding. One thing led to another and the Franks find themselves living in a secret annex atop of Mr. Frank's old work place. Going about day to day chores and taking care of the necessities, Anne describes her life in hiding. She also tells how it is living not only with her mother, father and sister Margret but also living with the Van Daan's, and Mr. Düssel. Talk about being crowded. With daily quarrels and constant fighting the 8 of them find it difficult to contain themselves. Although it seems like no big deal, it truly is, having to keep quiet 24/7, not being allowed to bath for weeks on end and not even being allowed to look outside the window, let alone all of the other ruthless, brutal and cruel tasks they had to do. Their lives were filled with hardships and most of all it is filled with the secrets and emotions of this 13 year old girl, dreading the thought that haunted her every minute of everyday; getting caught. In this diary Anne explains it all, all there is left to do for these unfortunate 8 is to sit and wait to see what fait has in store for them.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who's 12 years of age or up, due to some mature material discussed in this book I advise a more mature audience reads this book. There are many complex topics that are discussed in this book that really require you to think sincerely about. The Diary of Anne Frank is truly and extraordinary book, teaching lessons and morals around the world, you will not be disappointed, it will touch the hearts of millions. I know it touched mine.
Book Review: Okay Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, you know what? First of all, you people are all stupid. Anne Frank's diary is NOT a hoax. There was testing done on the diary that proved she did write it. Secondly, I'm tired of people saying the Holocaust never happened. I'd like them to go back in time and see exactly all the horrors. Thirdly, the reason Anne knew about what was going on in the camps was because the illegal radio told them, which you would know if you actually read the diary!!!!! Fourthly (if that's a word) I think people who write reviews here should spell things right and get their information right. Okay, it was SIX million Jews that died, not SIXTY. GET IT RIGHT, PEOPLE!!!! And just so you know where I'm coming from, I'm not some angry little Jewish kid who hates everybody because you got all the information wrong in your reviews. Now, I think everyone should read this diary. It's a very extrodinary tale and it teaches you alot of things. Give Anne some credit, okay? Just because she writes about boredom and quarrels in the Secret Annexe doesn't make it a boring story. It's very good. Someone wrote a review said that we shouldn't feel sorry for them because at least they had a roof over their heads. Give them a break, okay! They had hardly any food and couldn't go outside, they were bored. I bet that if you were in their shoes, you would do alot less worse than them, okay! This is a great book, I read it and re-read it all the time and have read practically every Anne Frank and Holocaust book known to mankind, saw the play, various movies and documentaries, and own the diary, as well as several other books and the movie. In case you haven't noticed, I'm like obbsessed with all this and am determined to prove what a great person Anne was. Oh, and here's why nobody can relate to Anne Frank: SHE WAS A VERY SPECIAL PERSON WE SHOULD ALL LOOK UP TO!!! Okay, and just so you know, every person I know says that I could have been Anne Frank's twin because we look so much alike, plus, our personalities are indentical and also, I'm obbbsessed with her. So everyone I know thinks I was her in a past life. So, in conclusion, (if you bothered to read my words of wisdom), this isn't really a review, but a rant about inconsiderate people. I think Anne Frank rocks, and if everyone wasn't busy saying her diary is a fake and went on and on about how boring it is and actually read it, you would learn alot of things about life and such things. So, read this!!!!!
