Book Review: Great book

I bought this book after reading the reviews online and it didn't disappoint. There are several sides to it: the road to the recovery of Dr. David Servant-Schreiber, the stories of other cancer patients many of them very inspiring, what causes cancer and what you can do to either prevent it or, in case you have it try to survive as long as you can.
His journey to recovery was more amazing because being trained as an allopathic doctor and researcher he had to discover that there was a lot more to it than he had learned in medical school. Fascinating to read and the impression I got was that having cancer, (no matter how horrible) contributed to him becoming a better doctor and a better human being.
There are a few things I don't agree with like the use of soya or the fact that he feels that first of all one should make use of Western medicine (I have never had cancer, luckily, but I have seen it quite a bit in my close family and I am not sure at all that all the cutting and poisoning should be the first approach, I suppose I need to read more about it as this was my first book on the subject). He also mentions a study that states that identical twins don't share the risk of developing cancer, something I am not sure about because although I am not a researcher and not even a doctor, I do read quite often in the paper about twins who both suffer from cancer. The fact that he states that there is no natural approach capable of curing cancer I am not sure either. I think that the fact that he didn't try natural cures alone doesn't mean that they don't exist.
From everything I have read I am not at all sure that eating meat might cause cancer, if you eat normal amounts. On this subject read Barry Groves book Trick and Treat: How Healthy Eating is Making Us Ill, a book I very much enjoyed! Read also about how important anomal fat is.
Advising sunflower oil as well as canola, corn and soya oil doesn't seem wise to me. Aren't they full of Omega-6s which promote inflammation? If I understand well one should actually keep away from all vegetable oils except olive oil.
I also have doubts about green tea. I have often heard of how good it is in order to prevent cancer and it may be true, but I have also read about the fact that many of the green teas available in the shops are full of fluoride. How can we protect ourselves against that? I have looked for it in a health food shop but I still don't know whether it might have fluoride or not and no use asking anybody in the shop because unless the tea is tested there is no way of knowing.
I would also have liked to see an Index, it makes searching for a certain subject so much easier.....
This is a book for everybody, not only for those suffering from cancer because once you are ill it is more difficult to absorb all the information and to make the right choices! Moreover this book is written in a very sensitive way, even the chapter where the author talks about death and dying is not a terrifying one. Dr. Schreiber has a site: [...] (in French but I suppose that it exists in English as well).
I fully agree with him that one needs to live a more fully conscious life but the problem is how to do it in the modern world. Still.... if we want to stay here for a while we will have to learn how to do it! Dr. Schreiber seems to be such a likeable and inspiring person that I sincerely hope he is still alive and well!
