Book Review: The best book about cancer I've read
Summary: 5 Stars

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2008 and have read at least a dozen books on diet and cancer. This one is without a doubt the best of them all. After reading it, I got three more copies and gave one to my PCP, who loved it and has been recommending it to his patients as the best way to eat to be healthy, whether one has cancer or not. He was impressed with the research Dr. Servan-Schreiber has done in his work and that he refers to in the book. To quote him, Dr. S-S is "brilliant" and his research excellent. I also gave a copy to my oncologist who was very impressed with the book and thought the charts were excellent. I am reading the book again and following his recommendations as closely as possible. This is a great book and very accessible to the non-medical reader. Other cancer diet books go into way too much detail about the chemicals in food. He covers these but does so without overwhelming the reader with too much technical information. Now I'm going to buy a cookbook the author recommends by Dr. Richard Beliveau, who is also an expert on cancer.

I highly recommend this book. There are other good ones out there, but this one is by far the best. BTW, this is the first time I've written a book review on Amazon, but I've done so because I am that impressed with this book. Although I have eaten a healthy diet for years, I wasn't eating all the anti-cancer foods, but now I am armed with the information I need to beat this disease.

Book Review: Super, But Would Like More Information
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had 8 female friends diagnosed with cancer in the past 2 years. These friends are aged from 30 to 49, do not smoke, do not drink heavily, are not overweight, and all but of them one has children. Needless to say, I wanted to learn more about cancer and how it might affect my family. I immediately started reading this book after it was delivered, and could not put it down. There were a lot of "aha" moments for me while reading this book. I feel like I've learned a lot about cancer and how I might be able to ward it off. If I had one suggestion on how to make this book better, I would ask the author for resources on locating foods he suggests eating. For instance, I've had a difficult time finding organic grass-fed dairy products. One local natural foods store did have organic milk made from grass-fed cows, but it was unpasturized. Because I have little kids, I'm wary of an unpasturized product. That unpasturized milk was the only grass-fed dairy product I found after looking all day at several markets...no cheese, yogurt, etc. Also, no employees at the markets knew if their organic poultry was grass-fed. Since I live in Sonoma County, California - an area where "local" and "organic" food stores are popular - I thought getting these foods would be easy. So far, it hasn't been that easy. I would love to know how and where the author shops, so I can feed my family the same wholesome food.

Book Review: Superb
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely love....love this book! The good Doctor breaks everything down in laymen's terms....and the regimen to eat in an Anticancer way is not difficult...the foods are everyday foods (other than the Agave Nectar)a that can be found in every supermarket...I am a person with such a sweet tooth that I really could have gone through a 12-step program...I mean I was addicted...after 1 week on the regimen, I'm slowly weaning myself away from the sugar and the Agave Nectar is very good and pleasant tasting (unlike Stevia that I'd tried many moons ago) It tastes like honey, so I use it whenever I have a sweet craving...

I have breast cancer and this book has been such a god-send to me...it makes me feel that I can be proactive in my own treatment...that I can DO something about the illness...even if I never get well (I'm stage IV) it gives me a feeling of empowerment...plus.... The chemo has been making me gain weight and this new way of eating is couteracting the weight gain!

I like the fact that the author is speaking from experience and not just theory...he actually had cancer...this is a must-read for everyone...I've been telling all of my family and friends to get the book and apply the advice!!!

Book Review: A book to share with Everyone !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

In "Anticancer: A New Way of Life" David Servan-Schreiber M.D. has written a wonderful accompaniment to Colin Campbell, Ph.D.'s "The China Study. Dr. S-S's writing style is clear and concise. He has the gift of being able to make the scientific understandable to all of us. A comprehensive approach to complementary ways of fighting cancer are presented with warmth and caring. After reading "The China Study", I immediately ordered a dozen copies for family and friends. I will do the same with this wonderful book. As a physician, I understand all too well the profound deficit in nutritional education that plagues our medical schools. Thus excellent physicians are woefully uneducated in how the food we eat affects our ability to either promote illness or contribute to our health and well being. This book is comprehensive, including the scientific, nutritional, exercise/physical and the mind/body in a very user friendly way. It is just as important for those of us who are currently healthy as it is for those of us engaged in a battle against cancer. And the possibilities for changes in our children and grandchildren are very encouraging.

Book Review: why cancer is epidemic and what lifestyle changes may limit it--an inspiring and motivational book
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a very readable book written by a doctor who twice developed brain cancer. He was dissatisfied with the lack of information he received on how to avoid future cancer episodes so he started researching cancer. He discovered that even in populations with low incidence of cancer, people who died from other causes often had microtumors in their bodies and he wondered why the tumors remained small. He searched out information on what limits and what stimulates cancer growth and presents that information in this book. He also discusses why cancer is prevalent (epidemic) and concludes it is due to 3 factors: environment (pollution & chemicals in our food); the type of food that we eat and the stressful and also sedentary nature of our lives. He gives specific (non-drug) suggestions for lifestyle changes that people can take to improve all 3 of these areas and feels that there are no harmful side effects from his suggestions, only the possibility of improved health. After reading it, I am buying 2 copies of this book -- one for me to keep for reference and lifestyle change and one for a friend who is going through chemotherapy
