Book Reviews of Are You There God? It's Me, MargaretBook Review: Great Teenager Book Summary: 5 Stars
Frustrated, Margaret ignored Him. She had asked Him to grow, but He had not listened. This is a constant problem of an almost 12-year-old girl called Margaret that is in a rush to grow. It’s in New Jersey, in a town. Margaret came from New York to New Jersey. There she meets some girls, Nancy, Gretchen and Janie. Nancy is a smart girl that lives some houses from Margaret. She also goes to school with her. Janie and Gretchen go to school with her too. They all begin a beautiful friendship and form a club that they name PTS. It stands for Pre Teen Sweeties. They all share their experiences, go over many changes and start learning and discovering many things. Margaret enters the confusing world of a young girl going through a lot of changes without a specific religion. Even though she has grown without any, she is anxious to find one. She certainly has a great connection with God, she talks with Him! We all share Margaret’s feelings and thoughts at this tough age. This book talks about friendship, love, religion, adolescence, changes… it has a little bit of everything. The author hold my attention by showing instead of telling me. She is a great descriptor and has a wonderful way of keeping you attached to the book. The book is funny and serious at the same time; I always wanted to know what was going to happen. I liked it a lot because it is honest and talks about everything that girls think and feel while they are going through difficult ages like 10-15 years old. It is funny and teaches many things. It is exciting and easy to read. I strongly recommend this book to pre teen girls specially. There’s a lot to know and with this book you totally laugh about the great and amazing times of the life in a young girl. Also, it is thought provoquing when it gets to the point that a girl without religion is driven by her friends and people in general to the question of why doesn’t she have a religion. She realizes that the only thing that is going to get her to the answer is her own initiative. The faith of Margaret is so great that even without having an specific religion she talks to God and shares everything with Him. Will Margaret go through this tough age happily? Is she going to find a religion? Does she really love his neighbor, Moose? Is she going to grow at the same time her friends are? Read and find out. Believe me this book will answer all and even more of the funny, ridiculous and even dumb questions that a teenager girl can have.
Summary of Are You There God? It's Me, MargaretAre You There God? It's Me, Margaret
No one ever told Margaret Simon that eleven-going-on- twelve would be such a hard age. When her family moves to New Jersey, she has to adjust to life in the suburbs, a different school, and a whole new group of friends. Margaret knows she needs someone to talk to about growing up-and it's not long before she's found a solution.
Are you there God? It's me, Margaret. I can't wait until two o'clock God. That's when our dance starts. Do you think I'll get Philip Leroy for a partner? It's not so much that I like him as a person God, but as a boy he's very handsome. And I'd love to dance with him... just once or twice. Thank you God. If anyone tried to determine the most common rite of passage for preteen girls in North America, a girl's first reading of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret would rank near the top of the list. Judy Blume and her character Margaret Simon were the first to say out loud (and in a book even) that it is normal for girls to wonder when they are ever going to fill out their training bras. Puberty is a curious and annoying time. Girls' bodies begin to do freakish things--or, as in Margaret's case, they don't do freakish things nearly as fast as girls wish they would. Adolescents are often so relieved to discover that someone understands their body-angst that they miss one of the book's deeper explorations: a young person's relationship with God. Margaret has a very private relationship with God, and it's only after she moves to New Jersey and hangs out with a new friend that she discovers that it might be weird to talk to God without a priest or a rabbi to mediate. Margaret just wants to fit in! Who is God, and where is He when she needs Him? She begins to look into the cups of her training bra for answers ...
