Book Review: A Must Read with a minor flaw....
Summary: 4 Stars

At Last Comes Love stands alone but is enriched by having read the other two books in the series. Entering the story with a good idea of where Margaret has been makes this story of her emergence even more powerful. Having spent years raising her three younger siblings and having navigated their transition from want to wealth, Margaret decides it's time to live her own life. With all the responsibilities of adulthood pushed on her as a teenager, who is Margaret, really? Is she the person she has had to be or someone else entirely? Is she who she thought she was at 17, a girl in love with a military man? Is she who everyone expects her to be, the staid woman drifting into a sedate existence with a respectable man? Or has she deferred her choice so long that she has none left? When she meets a man who proposes to her on sight, a man everyone agrees is a disgrace, Margaret has to choose her identity and her path quickly.

As with all the books in this series strong characterization and realistic family ties dominate. Understanding why Duncan brought disgrace on himself allows Margaret to help Duncan see how much his own estranged family longs for his explanations. In turn, having lived outside of society has made Duncan bluntly honest, something Margaret needs to understand who she is and who she wants to be. This is one of Balogh's best books and well worth reading.

The only flaw comes at the end. A problem is resolved with a twist straight out of early 80's romance. It's over the top, unnecessary, and out of place in the novel. But it's dealt with well, and it's not central to the relationship of Margaret and Duncan, leaving me one star short of a perfect review, but still placing this book as one of the year's best.

Book Review: At Last Comes Love-A Joyfully Recommended Title!!
Summary: 5 Stars

At Last Comes Love

Margaret Huxitable needs to find a fiancé and quickly. The man who she loved for years had jilted her to marry a Spanish lady while on a military campaign, now that he's back and a widower, Maggie doesn't want to appear as if she's pined for him so she lies to him and claims to be betrothed. For Duncan Pennethorne, Earl of Sheringford Maggie's situation is the answer to his prayers. Due to a scandal 5 years ago, he has fifteen days to marry a suitable woman or be disinherited. Both agree to an engagement but can they make a marriage between them work?

I had been waiting for Margaret's book since the first Huxitable book and wasn't disappointed in anyway by At Last Comes Love! Duncan and Maggie thoroughly engrossed me, keeping me hanging on their story, never wanting it to end!

Seducing an Angel

Stephen Huxitable, the Earl of Merton, is intrigued by Cassandra Belmont. Scandal surrounds her and she is in London to find a wealthy lover. She is determined to choose wisely and Stephen is the perfect choice. The passion burns bright between them and before long the passion becomes love. But even though Stephen has decided to make Cassandra his wife instead of his lover, he still has to convince her.

Mary Balogh does it again. Regency romance at its best Seducing an Angel is just what I was looking for in the last Huxitable book. Passion, villains and a hero to die for make this a must read!

I can't recommend that readers pick up this series highly enough. But if you do get ready for reading marathon because once you start reading, you won't be able to stop!

Book Review: One of her worst!
Summary: 2 Stars

I usually love Mary Balogh novels--but this one was a real disappointment. It kept my interest, somewhat, until the male protagonist's revelation about his past--although the formula up until that point was very unoriginal (Sheringford had to take a wife because his grandfather would have disowned him--sort of). After that point, I could barely read it--it was so boring and such drivel, that I couldn't believe it was written by Balogh, and kept thinking, maybe it will get better. It didn't.

I think what makes a really good romance novel are interesting characters that you come to care about, conflict(s) that need to be resolved before the end of the book, and sexual tension between the two main characters. There just weren't enough of any of these. How boring is it to read that the characters are determined to "fall in love" with each other and then methodically go about doing that. It literally put me to sleep--I could barely finish the book. I also was kind of surprised by the "villain" in this book--I expected something better from Ms. Balogh than what we got.

Ms. Balogh's Simply Series books are what got me hooked on this author. They were "simply wonderful". I have also read many in her Slightly series which also were really well done. But if this was the first book I ever read of hers, I would dismiss her as a hack and never read her again. After reading other reviews that have said that this is the best in this series, I can only imagine how dull the others in this series are. I will not be picking them up.

Book Review: simply great
Summary: 5 Stars

Five years ago, Lord Duncan Pennethorne caused the scandal of the decade when he jilted his fiancé to run away with her sister-in-law. He stayed away from London until now. His grandfather has written him to find a wife in fifteen days or he will inherit nothing but a name. Desperate not for himself but for four years old Toby, Duncan moves into the home of his mom and stepfather as he has a fortnight to marry a proper spouse.

At a ball, almost thirty and obviously on the shelf, Margaret Huxtable flees an unwanted suitor only to crash into Duncan. He quickly realizes she is perfect to satisfy his grandfather, but she proves to be a stubborn spinster. As he courts her and she rejects him, they become friends and soon fall in love. As each reveals their past secrets, they find hope in each other's arms until his scandal re-explodes. With her extended family in their court the lead couple believes love will bring justice to those who unfairly were punished and those who should have but were not.

The third Huxtable Regency romance (see FIRST COMES MARRIAGE and THEN COMES SEDUCTION) is simply great as the story line takes a deep look at values that were powerful in the early nineteenth century and remain so today. The lead couple is a delightful pairing of two intelligent caring souls who try to always do the right thing even when the cost is their reputation. Fans will enjoy this superb entry while awaiting the last single Huxtable tale to be told.

Book Review: 3rd story in the Huxtable family series
Summary: 4 Stars

At Last Comes Love by Mary Balogh is the third story in the Huxtable family series. It was an okay read, but nothing stood out in my mind. It reminded me of other stories that I've read. It is a sweet love story focusing on Margaret Huxtable who is almost 30, and is desperate to be married. She wants a husband and family. The hero, Duncan Pennethorne, Earl of Sheringford, needs a wife and needs one soon or his grandfather will give his home to Duncan's cousin. Duncan can't let that happen because he needs the money to take care of his "son". Duncan left his home years ago when he ran away with a married woman right before his own wedding so people believe him to be a rogue.

Duncan and Margaret meet at a ball, and Duncan decides to try to get Margaret to marry him. Margaret is not repulsed by the idea seeing as she as told an old lover of hers that she was betrothed when she isn't. So she goes along with Duncan's marriage proposal. Except that she wants Duncan to court her properly before she will actually marry him. As their friendship grows, so does their feelings for each other. But Duncan has to tell Margaret the truth behind the scandal associated with his name, and the truth about his "son". The other Huxtable family members are brought back into this story which was nice. Can't wait for Stephen's story next. 4 stars!
