Book Reviews of At Last Comes LoveBook Review: Expected better Summary: 3 Stars
I've enjoyed the Huxtable series by Mary Balogh because I like that love is a developmental process, even if it tends to be a slower read. And I liked Margaret from the beginning. However, I found her story disappointing from the middle to the end. I liked how she met Duncan and really loved the first meetings with him (even if the scandal stuff was a bit trite and too much like Katherine's story). However, the second half of the book was a big disappointment. Margaret was not true to character and suddenly transformed to an overreactive and unlikable weakling. Balogh tried to redemn her with a quick save by the blackmailing scheme being her "brillant" idea, but it was too little, too late. Margaret's character lost much of her appeal in the latter part of the novel and it was, interestingly, the same part of the novel that became boring, longwinded (very longwinded, beware) and unexciting. This book has a lot of potential and some will love it just because they like the series and/or the author, but it did not deliver in the end. Read it if you follow the series/author, but otherwise it's not a worthwhile endeavor.
Book Review: At Last comes Love Summary: 4 Stars
Margaret is the oldest of the Huxtable family, who had charged herself with the care of her three yunger siblings after her parents died, so that, at the age of 30, she was almost definitely on the shelf. Unexpectedly her most faithful courtier, whom she had finally decided to marry, had engaged himself to another, and she, upset by the news, received in the middle of a ball, dashes out of the house, only to run into, literally, Lord Sheringford, who was madly in need of a bride for financial reasons. After a bit of discussion they decide to get married. And, of course, fall in love with each other over a short period of time.
There is a happy ending, in spite of the fact that there appears to be an illegitimate child involved. This of course is not true, but a case of Lord Sheringford protecting a hapless and dying female and her young son.
Once again the Huxtable family has another good and happy marriage in its ranks, and we have a lucious read.

Book Review: Much better than the first, and slightly better than the second. Summary: 5 Stars
This book is SO good! I was dissapointed with the first and second books in this series (First comes Marriage, and Then Comes Seduction) because those were simply not up to the standards of Ms. Balogh's fabulous writing! Then Comes Seduction was pretty good, but just not up to standards with the usual Balogh. First Comes Marriage was just boring. Luckily, in this book, the series is redeemed. This is a heartwarming, INTERESTING story between Margaret and Duncan. It's one of those books that you could just FEEL the characters falling in love. The chemistry between the two leads is palpable. Margaret is a strong character whom I could relate to. She felt real. I thought she was a bit more of a complex character than Duncan was, but Duncan was is possibly one of my favorite heroes EVER. He's a rake and is completely sweet. He's not one of those aloof heroes who really annoy me (aka, Elliot). But this book is really good and possibly one of my favorite Balogh books! Enjoy :)
Book Review: So Good I Bought "Em Twice! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the first two books in the Huxtable series in paperback. I subsequently discovered a book club that had them in hardcover. I immediately ordered all three currently published in hardcover and gave the paperbacks to my sister. I knew after "Then Comes Seduction" that I wanted these in hardcover for my Keeper Shelf, and was overjoyed to discover the book club offering them.
Meg and Duncan are such rich characters, they are people who have lived some years ,made some tough decisions, and now have to figure out how to live the rest of their lives. The genius in the writing, is that Ms. Balogh is able to put two self-sacrificing characters together in one book, and not have them them come off as pitiful or weak. If I could write like this I'd never put a pen down :) If the next two books, Stephen and Con's stories are even half as good as "At Last Comes Love", I will consider myself well compensated for the price of the books.
Book Review: Aiming for Happiness Summary: 4 Stars
I absolutely enjoyed this lovely solid book with its colorful dialogue, strong characters, believable conflict, and endearing romance.
It really was in the hands of fate that sent both Margaret and Duncan to collide into each other not a moment too soon at a ball, which propelled them to carry out their own different needs to get married. In the end, fortunately, they got a lot more.
What I loved so much about this book was its honesty. How two different people can come together and find that they can find love and peace from the other and who knows? Maybe they were meant for each other? :)
It was a very sincere reading into watching the two main characters transform and change be confronted and see them expose themselves to the other GRADUALLY and it was done beautifully. I loved the mature context, as well :D This book is a for certain must-read.
