Book Reviews of At Last Comes Love

Book Review: The best yet in this series....
Summary: 4 Stars

Mary Balogh is an exceptional writer, who just happens to write in the romance genre. Her characters are (usually) three-dimensional, the dialogue is excellent and her plots have the ring of truth.
Like other reviewers, I thought this was the best in the series, mostly because Margaret's personality is so fully revealed here. I won't repeat the plot as others have done so at some length but I would recommend this highly, whether the reader has read the first two or not.

p.s. Like another reviewer, I thought the bad guys were rather one-dimensional. However, I just loved the hero's mother and her confession to the heroine that she just plays at being foolish as a way to manipulate men. Her plea for her son was one of the highlights of the book.

Book Review: The best by far
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first time writing a review of any kind so that should say something. This book was awesome!!! I loved it's pace, there was never a dull moment. It wasn't alot of shyness. The characters were very open, for the most part, about what they wanted in a relationship. No shy virginal sex scenes, just two people willing to acknowlege their attraction without a lot of pretense. I liked that.

I read the first two books in this series. I really didn't care for the second one too much and was hesitant to read this one but, Mary is one of my favorites so I had to try it...I'm glad I did. Great job MARY!!!

Book Review: I really wanted to like this book
Summary: 2 Stars

I have also enjoyed Mary Balough's books previously, though not as much as vintage Julia Quinn, etc. I had high hopes for this new series. The first two books in the series were decent reads but this book was very disappointing. I gave it 2 stars because the set-up to the marriage was amusing and Duncan was interesting, at first. However, the first love scene made me shudder because it was so impersonal. The romance was dull and there were no twists or surprises. Overall, I would recommend you save your money for Eloisa James' new Duchess book, coming out soon.

Book Review: Right back on track!
Summary: 4 Stars

Delighted to say that after a slightly disappointing 2nd book this one is right back on track. Not quite a 5 star for me, more like 4 1/2. Better than the first and much better than the second one I really loved the hero, Duncan, and the way Ms Balogh revealed his secrets little by little was very well done. Although characters from the first books appeared they didn't interfere too much with the development of the principal relationship between Margaret/Meg/Maggie and the lovely Duncan. A well plotted story with a few unexpected twists and turns.

Book Review: Perfect finish!
Summary: 5 Stars

Hooray! With the first three books of the Hustable Quintet, Ms. Balogh has finally and beautifully acknowledged the fact that sexual tension before marriage can be just as exciting, if not more, than the consummation - especially in 19th century England. This fits so much better with factual history than her other works where she imposes 21st century morality on 19th century society. Her writing is just as wonderful and these stories are just as riveting while actually being historically correct!
