Book Reviews of At Last Comes LoveBook Review: Hooray! Summary: 5 Stars
Finally! A book with good character development. Both male and female leads are straightforward honest types who actually know how to communicate with each other. Their relationship develops in a reasonable and real way. They have some wit about them, some humor, they are neither terribly perfect, nor terribly damaged. When the inevitable crisis between them develops, as it must for any romance novel- its resolved in a few pages, not a hundred. Extremely satisfying read. A keeper.
Book Review: Is Mary Balogh coming to the end of the line? Summary: 3 Stars
Mary Balogh is in my top 3 favorite historical romance authors, but I am worrying that she is running out of ideas and coming to the end of the line with her writing like other authors such as Julia Quinn. When you compare the Huxtable series with her earlier books, there is just no comparison. So if you want to read her best, don't bother with this book or the other Huxtable books, go to her earlier efforts which are matchless.
Book Review: Entertaining read -- the best of the series so far Summary: 3 Stars
I was relieved to find Mary Balogh back in form with this book, having been disappointed by the first two in the series. ALCL is not up to her best (_Slightly Dangerous_, _Simply Love_, Simply Perfect_) or some of her other titles, but it was a fun read. Slightly too melodramatic in places (even for a romance!), and the supporting Huxtables in this book are pretty annoying until the end, but well worth the time!
Book Review: refreshing Summary: 4 Stars
This is the third book of the Huxtable series and the best so far. I'm so tired of romances where the hero is a jerk. Finally, a romance where grown-ups behave like grown-ups...without being in the least boring. The developing relationship shown between Margaret and Duncan is convincing and realistic despite some plot devices that probably aren't. Finally, another Balogh worth re-reading.
Book Review: Very disappointing. Summary: 2 Stars
I love Mary Balogh's books. But this one made me so angry the whole time, I didn't even want to finish it. In the first two books, Margaret seemed like a very strong, principled woman. However, in her own story she is pathetic and not at all nice to Duncan, who deserves much better. This series is not the quality that I've come to expect from Mary Balogh.
