Book Reviews of Baking: From My Home to YoursBook Review: Can a cookie bring World Peace? Summary: 5 Stars
I just got this book and will have to buy another. Because the first one will be filled with butter stains and
chocolate drippings and flour spots - this is a book to bake from, not just to read. Although Dorie makes the
reading part almost as good as the baking part. And nobody writes a recipe like this woman. She takes you by the hand and guides you through the recipe, making it impossible to screw up. Even for a baking klutz like myself. Trying to decide which recipe to try first is a challenge, but I highly recommend the World Peace Cookies. If they could be served right now to all the world leaders visiting the U.N. our chances for world peace would soar. Bake them and you'll see what I mean.
Book Review: By FAR the best book on baking that I own Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this book several times, and I absolutely love it. It's one of those cook books that you can trust, knowing that as long as you follow the directions, your dessert will be delicious. I have yet to find a dud in this book. What's more, Greenspan makes the book enjoyable to read, because not only is she a great pastry chef, but a fine writer as well. Many of the recipes have a story connected with them, which makes the baking experience much more interesting.
Keep in mind that this is NOT a book you should give someone who wants to lose weight, because the desserts Greenspan presents are quite decadent...and impossible to resist.
Book Review: every recipe a winner Summary: 5 Stars
Dorie Greenspan's style of recipe writing and her knack for description make this book a pleasure to read AND to bake with. Full of beautiful pictures, tips for success and variations, this book is a source of inspiration and also a fall-back manual for classics. Recipes range from basic yellow cake to Pecan Honey Sticky Buns or Caramel Peanut Topped Brownie Cake. This book is so popular there is even an online group devoted to Baking with Dorie. [...].
Put your trust in Dorie, you won't be sorry. With a few recipes I've been skeptical about flavor combinations but they always end up being great. I love the easy, casual tone of the book too.
Book Review: I realized Faith Middleton may not always be honest or right Summary: 1 Stars
I decided to order this book because Faith Middleton, the host of WNPR(CT)'s Faith Middleton show, was raving and raving and raving about each and every result of the recipes that she had tasted. " Unbelievably delicious", " out of this world", " is it possible this cookie could taste so good?"...are among the words and praises she said on the air. Unfortunately, I could not agree with her AT ALL after I tried some of the recipes. Most of the cake recipes I tried to bake came out not at all special, they were not even average. I don't know what Faith was thinking, but from now on I would definitely take her word with a BIG grain of salt.
Book Review: Fabulous! Summary: 5 Stars
I own several Dori Greenspan books. Quite simply, she is a wonderful baker and this book is no exception and nothing short of superb! It is full of great desserts, that are flavorful and pleasing to the eye, as well. I had the great pleasure of speaking with Dori once and asked her a few baking questions. I found her to be the most humble and lovely person. This book, and all of her other books, are a great reflection of her, in that they are not pretentious and stuffy, yet full of wonderful desserts to fulfill your soul and an insatiable desire to bake your heart out. BUY THIS BOOK and her others! You will thank yourself!
