Book Review: Preserving fool
Summary: 5 Stars

BALL Complete Book of Home PreservingI bought this book so I could learn the old art of preserving. I live in Maine and most of my neighbors have small farms and blueberry fields, so they offer me fresh fruits and vegetables all summer long, but I want to preserve them for those long, cold Maine winter nights.Hehehehehe. This book helped me preserve over 20 different fruits and vegetables and I love it. I now have most of my Xmas gifts all done.

Book Review: Pretty good

Too much sugar in the jam recipes!!! There's so much -- equal to or MORE than the amount of fruit! -- that it disguises the taste of the fruit. My friend and I have reduced the sugar in the recipes -- drastically -- with very good results. Cooking the fruit, and then processing the jams in a water bath for the indicated length of time kills the pathogens.

The scope of recipes is very broad, which I appreciate. The procedures are covered very thoroughly and explain why they need to be followed as directed. Also a good thing.

Book Review: Good recipes, but you might need more jars

This is my first year canning, and I've made 2 recipes from this book so far (pickled peaches and pickled cantaloupe), and both seemed tasty before canning and boiling. My only complaint with this book is that the recipes do not give weights of fruits needed.

For the pickled peaches, I used 16 cups of small sized peach halves, but instead of 5 pints of finished product, I got 10 pints. I guess the recipe was designed for larger fruit, but it was never specified (and I looked through the book trying to find the answer).

Book Review: A must-have for canners
Summary: 5 Stars

My first encounter with this book was when I checked it out of my local library. But I quickly realized that I needed to own it. If you are interested in canning and preserving and you want one cookbook that tells you everything you need to know, look no further. This book combines the basic techniques and recipes for beginners with sophisticated variations and flavor combinations that experienced canners will want. There are at least a dozen recipes that I am dying to try, such as Spiced Golden Plum Jam and Ginger Pear Preserves.

Book Review: Easy and excellant

I had purchased my copy of this book a few years ago but really did not use it until this summer when produce was so plentiful. I found it to be a very easy process when following the simple instructions in the book. In fact, I was having so much fun with it that I shared it's existence with my sister who then wanted me to copy some of the recipes for her. Instead, I ordered a copy for here as well. She will receive it as a Christmas gift......in the meantime I am stalling on giving her the recipes requested!!...;)
