Book Reviews of Barefoot: A NovelBook Review: I really wanted to like this book... Summary: 1 Stars
True confession: I'm totally a "judge the book by the cover" type of girl when it comes to picking out books at the store. Looking at this one, I just knew I'd love it. When I found out it took place on Nantucket, I knew I was not only going to love it, but want to savor every last page and wish it never would end.
I didn't.
Not at all. The character development wasn't there. None of the characters were truly likable, which they don't need to be: but not only didn't I like them, I didn't care what happened to them. The storylines, particularly Vicki's, while gripping and something I could relate to, had no oomph. I couldn't wait for this book to be over.
Book Review: just ok Summary: 3 Stars
I thought the book was ok . the story line was good , but there were a lot of pages that i just skipped right over. there was a lot of background information that kind of dragged on , and if i attempted to read it all i would have never stayed interested enough to finish the book .I felt Nantucket, this is actually the second book about Nantucket that i have read and it has sparked my interest as far as a relaxing summer week . So all in all the book was good , you could picture yourself sitting at their kitchen table or on the beach with them , but the extra stuff was useless. I also felt that although the ending was good , that is where it lacked some extra writing..
Book Review: Much More Than a Trashy Beach Novel Summary: 4 Stars
The cover of "Barefoot" suggests another disposable summer trashy read, but I found it to be so much more. The characters were well-developed (I especially loved Brenda!), the plot lines were compelling, and the setting was captivating. I found myself wanting to join the three spunky women on Nantucket, and more than once I fantasized about the hunky (yet sensitive) Josh. :)
This book found me during a very hectic time in my life. However, "Barefoot" was such a delicious, well-written page-turner that I stole extra minutes wherever I could to treat myself to its captivating tale. I highly recommend it!
Book Review: Outstanding Summer Read! Summary: 5 Stars
As a two and a half year survivor of breast cancer and mother of two young daughters, I couldn't believe the accuracy and emotional connection I felt with the main character, Vicki. While You feel no one can ever understand what going through cancer is really like, Elin Hilderbrand nailed it. I loved the rest of the characters and twists and turns. Ironically I read this book while recuperating from an elective oopherectomy. I cried when Vicki lived! Praise for cancer survivors! Praise to Elin Hilderbrand! Today I am off to buy her new novel, and to try and book a get-away to Nantucket with my husband!
Book Review: If you're planning to wait for hours in the airport or somewhere else.. Summary: 4 Stars
Then this book is for you. Or maybe not just for that.
I liked this book a lot. It can be forgettable because it's nothing that special. But I found it cute and cute is good. I love Josh Flynn's character by the way.
Nice book to read when you're incredibly bored, when you're passing time, or when you just want a break from the heavy drama and scary thrillers. Or the seemingly-trying-hard-to-be-HarryPotter-books.
Yup. NIce chick lit, this one.
