Book Reviews of Beekeeping for DummiesBook Review: The Best for Beginners Summary: 5 Stars
Being a complete dummie about Bees I was looking for the basics in a how-to book. I have not always been pleased with previous "For Dummies" books but this one is good. It is complete with advice for what you need to start, what is really necessary and what is optional, and how to decide. I am up and running with my bees and owe a lot to this book. When I went to the supplier I knew enough to make educated decisions on what to buy. I bought two other books and they were a waste of time.
Book Review: A good read for the new or beginning beekeeper Summary: 4 Stars
I would highly recommend this book to the new or beginning beekeeper. It is a very good read and is not nearly as dry or flowerly as several of the books out there on the subject. It does an excellent job of walking you thru the basics of setting up a bee hive and what to look for once your bee hive is populated. It lost a star in my veiw because it does not cover well everything that an experienced beekeeper needs to know and, if you are really a "dummy" beekeeping is not for you.
Book Review: Best of all starter books Summary: 4 Stars
I have been pondering beekeeping for 3 or 4 years now. I've read several books on the subject but never felt I had learned quite enough to delve into beekeeping. Enter "beekeeping for dummies". Mr. Blackiston explains everything in an easy matter of fact style that caters directly to the novice. I found answers to virtually every question I had as well as the inspiration to "give it a go". If you are wanting to keep bees but have been reluctant to pull the trigger, buy this book.
Book Review: Great beginners book Summary: 3 Stars
This is a great "first" book. It is excellent for explaining the parts of a hive, terminology, etc., in a very readable manner, and I love the cartoons. But you must also read other books as well. The more you read, the more you'll be able to separate "opinion" from "hard fact." "The New Starting Right with Bees" etc. are excellent first-year companions to "Beekeeping for Dummies." If you start with this book, you'll be on your way; if you stop with it, you will be in a sorry state.
Book Review: Un-BEE-lievable information!! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this book for my husband who wants to keep bees. He cannot put down that book. The pictures and illustrations are so informative. After going thru the book just once, he is looking for equipment. Granted, going into winter he will wait and probably read the book again. But he will be ready in the spring go order his bees. It has been exciting for us both and this is just the beginning. And the price of the book was pennies compared to its worth. Buy the book!
