Book Review: Not Very Inspiring

I love one of Amy Karol's sites, her weblog, Angry Chicken and that is what led me to her book, Bend-the-Rules Sewing. I'm sorry to say that I find the book disappointing. I have a little knowledge of sewing, but not much and I don't think this book should be recommended to beginners. Although the book does include some illustrations, the hard-to-follow instructions lack visual examples. Some of her instructions are extremely confusing and really don't make sense to me. I think these are the ones that really need to be accompanied by pictures -- either drawings or photos. Also, I don't find the ideas in this book to be all that unique or hip. Some projects, I think, are very ordinary, church fair-type items and a bit hokey. Not very inspiring.
