Book Reviews of Best Friends Forever: A NovelBook Review: Best Friends Forever Review Summary: 5 Stars
The book Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner is excellent! Her descriptions were phenomenal but she kept the vocabulary at a level that would make sense to many ages. The theme of this book is how honesty is crucial in a friendship to make the friendship work. The thesis of this book shows that you should value friendship and look at a situation from both sides of the argument.
This is about Addie and Valerie's friendship as it grows, collapses then grows again. Addie Downs, a woman who suffered bullying in high school, finds her old friend, Valerie, on her doorstep. Valerie, who betrayed her in high school, is now a popular weather reporter in Chicago, and turns to her friend when she finds herself in trouble with Addie's old high school crush Dan Swansea.
I think Jennifer Weiner wrote Best Friends Forever because she may have had a similar experience in her lifetime. It was written in third person, which is appropriate for the story. This book was written for people ages 13-30. It is a book anyone could enjoy. This book doesn't have a formal style; it is written in language people use everyday conversation. It is very descriptive; the author gives very detailed descriptions of what each scene looks like. This book made me happy in some parts, sad in others, and very annoyed in some. It definitely suits the intended audience; i think most 13-30 year olds like to read about what happens in real life but with much more action. It makes you wonder what you would do if you were in the same situation. When I first read the back of the book I thought it was going to be one of those books where once you read the first five pages you know exactly what is going to happen, but as you read there were many unexpected twists and turns that made this book very interesting. I can relate to the part of the book where one of the friends gets popular and ditches the other friend because the same things has happened to me several times.
This book really makes you think about your actions and how you can change to become a better person, which I think was the intended goal. I would definitely recommend this book to others because it was really exciting it made you want to keep reading. One issue this book brings up is bullying; it helps you realize how much bullying affects our world today. You realize how even though many people don't show how much bullying hurts them, bullying can be very hurtful to them. Some possibilities this book brings up are how we can fix the obesity problems and there are solutions to bullying, we just need to take action. A problem that was left unsolved was honesty. In the book, Addie accused Dan of doing something bad to Valerie and Dan denied it, later he tried to resolve it by turning himself in and he realized there wasn't anything he could do to fix it. This shows that honesty is important and many people can be hurt if you aren't honest.
A specific point that wasn't very convincing to me was how Valerie's mom had full custody of her. Valerie's mom wasn't a very good mom she was a good hearted but she wasn't prepared to be a mother, sometimes Valerie didn't get fed and when her mom had a boyfriend she forgot all about Valerie. I don't believe that Valerie's mother should have had full custody of her. This book reminded me of Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, because they share a common plot. I think Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Weiner, write a lot alike. If you like books by Jodi Picoult or other books Jennifer Weiner has written, you will enjoy this book.
This book is related to many issues in today's society. It talks about obesity, bullying, disabilities and religion. All in all Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner was a great book and I strongly recommend reading it!
