Book Review: Essential for the first couple months of breastfeeding your newborn

A friend and veteran mama gave this book to me shortly before my daughter was born. It is a concise but just detailed enough guide to breastfeeding. What sets this book apart from other books on the subject is that it is full of pictures and diagrams that make the mechanics of breastfeeding much easier to grasp. Moreover, it offers multicultural perspectives on breastfeeding that, I imagine, make this book more accessible to moms from a range of racial/ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Like so many moms and newborns, my girl and I got off to a rocky start...agonizing engorgement, cracked and bleeding nipples...you get the idea. The photographs and illustrations in this book helped me notice and correct my daughter's improper latch.
As a final word, no book can solve serious breastfeeding problems. It is best to meet with a lactation consultant if you are having difficulty, and use books like Bestfeeding for smaller problems along the way.
