Book Review: Excellent book

This is an excellent book on an important subject.
Dennis Genpo Merzel has created a technique "Big Mind" for exploring the mind, that I consider both more effective and safe than anything else I know of.
The technique is an extension of the "voice dialogue" of Hal and Sidra Stone, and Big Mind takes this originally psychological technique into the spiritual work where it can give quick access to states of mind, that often would otherwise take years of meditation.
In this book he gives an introduction to the technique and it is quite easy to read and understand. The book is excellent on its own, but of course even better when supported by DVD's where you can see Genpo practice the technique.

It's been awhile since I read a "spiritual" book but I remember the drill. Ancient platitudes about life and morality, blah, blah, blah. It's all very nice but kind of boring.
Boy was this a surprise! Through a very interesting and entertaining process, I learned a ton about who I am both psychologically and spiritually, and it didn't make me want to run around in a monks robe and shave my head. This zen stuff is actually quite down to earth in a very profound and personal way. If this is what zen masters are teaching, I wish I would have checked it out along time ago.

Genpo Roshi's book is a true masterpiece. At first, I was skeptical of the Big Mind process given its departure from traditional Zen. However, after reading the book and keeping an open mind, I can see how it fits so nicely with the dharma. Dogen Zenji said that to study Buddhism is to study the self, to study the self is to forget the self, to forget the self is to be enlightened by all things. The Big Mind process is a vehicle for one to study the self through direct experience. It is through skillful means that we can experience enlightenment. This can include shikantaza, koans, and now the Big Mind process. Thank you Genpo Roshi for creating another vehicle that uses skillful means to bridge east and west.Book Review: Looking all my life

I've been looking, ever since a teenager, when I (like many others) had spontaneous spiritual experiences. How to have such states of consciousness on purpose -- has been a driving question for me.
As a result, I've accumulated many processes.
The Big Mind, Big Heart process taught in this book & CD is among the easiest I've seen...it's so simple and easy - by hindsight. The CD talks us through the process - I found this very helpful.
If you're looking for a modern, easier way to experience enlightenment...this is probably the easiest and best you'll find. Try it out; be reasonably receptive -- have the experience for yourself...few books are this good!
Book Review: Worthwhile, but not all that great

I think this is a decent book, and I can see value in the communication via the sub-personality descriptions. However, the book is mostly descriptions of the sub-personalities as they relate to the author. There is little more to the book than asking sub-personalities to describe themselves - adding descriptions of Big-Mind and Big-Heart.
I don't think the book lives up to anywhere near the recommendations. I'm not sure why the high praise. It seems this sort of thing has been done forever and I don't think this book adds much.
I had the idea the CD would be helpful, but it is not. The CD does not add much value at all. There is very little on it.
