Book Review: Page turner all the way

Having lived in Taos, NM for 30 years, it was mind-opening to learn of the scope and relevence and impact that the south-west had on the shaping of our union. "Blood and Thunder", for me, was a page turner all the way. Hampton Sides can spin a yarn and is capable of turning the story of this era into a mesmerizing saga that satisfies on many levels. Of course, I am a history buff.....but, as Sides proves, the era of dull history writing is near an end. I love that history can be engaging and interesting and Sides comes through with a totally fascinating account of a time in our history that has never been covered with such satisfying storytelling.

In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, en route to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico.
