Book Reviews of Blue Hat, Green Hat (Boynton on Board)

Book Review: Oops! She did it again!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am so impressed with these series of books from Sandra Boynton! I LOVE this book! Yeah, I know, it is supposed to be more about my kids, but let's not underestimate the importance of a parent truly enjoying what they are reading out loud to their child!!!

This book is AWESOME! I think the turkey is hilarious in this book, and my children do too. I know my children like this book for themselves, but I think they also like how excited I get when they pick this book for me to read to them.

Not only is this book witty, smart, and visually appealing, but it is educational as well. This book teaches colors, articles of clothing, and how NOT to dress! LOL! That can be VERY important!

This book is a MUST, as well as ANY book from Sandra Boynton!!!

Book Review: Guaranteed Belly Laughs!
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, the other animals seem to be able to put their clothes on (a task that takes quite a bit of early skill, as any parent or grandparent knows). But what about the poor rooster? Ooops! The poor thing just can't get it right.

This wonderful book is special on many levels. First of all, it tickles a toddler's funny bone like no other...listen to your child yell, "Ooops!" and break up laughing. Definitely a plus right there. Then, it subtly teaches colors (the blue hat is indeed blue, the green hat is indeed green, and so forth). And finally, it shows the child that it's OK to make mistakes, and that learning such a huge task as dressing oneself can be hard even for roosters!

Along with every other Boynton book I've ever seen, this one's a keeper.

Book Review: So good you'll hate it...
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not entirely sure why, but my 18 month old absolutely loves this book. She has a shelf of literally hundreds of books. Blue Hat, Green Hat and But Not the Hippopotamus get read at least 20 times a day... every day.

Blue Hat, Green Hat is a book that will grow some. Initially, they will likely enjoy that every set of pages ends with "Ooops". From there though, they can learn about colors (the colored articles of clothing really stand out well on the pages), and about where each article of clothing should be worn.

It's nice to be able to add to the story with your own details. Trust me, you'll get tired of reading it otherwise.

Book Review: Great Book
Summary: 5 Stars

Blue Hat, Green Hat is a great book for young toddlers. This was the first book my oldest son actually started laughing when I read it to him when he was 15 months. My second son, who is one, is equally as enthralled. Sandra Boynton's pictures and wording is perfect for keeping toddler' attention, and it introduces them to colors. Around the age of two, my son could point to the different pictures and say what color each item of clothing was, and it was because we were constantly reading this book. You can also get your children involved in reading b/c they love to say "oops!" It's a favorite in our house, and it great book for younger children.

Book Review: A First "Reader"
Summary: 5 Stars

What an empowering book for little ones! By matching their knowledge of colors and clothing items, even toddlers can "read" this book! My son "read" this book to his grandpa when he was two, and was SO proud of himself: he could read a book just like the grown-ups in his life.

The other animals are getting dressed and doing just fine, but the silly turkey keeps getting it wrong, resulting in an "oops" at the end of each two-page spread. Kids love anticipating the "oops!" This was the first book where my son really understood and was tickled by the humor. Be aware that the final "oops" takes a little more explanation, though.
