Book Reviews of Blue Hat, Green Hat (Boynton on Board)Book Review: I love it. Summary: 4 Stars
Bought it for my niece, because she loved seeing me "dress" her toy bear the wrong way.
It's just so funny for her to see that silly turkey get dressed wrong. I'm not sure that she quite catches the joke at the end (she's only two), and the oops is a bit hard for her (we say uh-oh usually), but she still thinks it's funny.
The one real caveat I have is the turkey's wattle. We know it's a wattle, but I'm not sure toddlers are always that knowledgeable. To the uninitiated, it looks more like a misplaced sock.
Book Review: Full of giggles Summary: 5 Stars
Sandra Boynton's endearing animals model different colored clothes while we inventory them ("Blue Hat, Green Hat, Yellow Hat... OOPS!") -- until we come to the chicken. Invariably we turn the page to find this sincere little guy with his goofy interpretation of the item --wearing the hat on his foot for example. My 3 year-old daughter likes to finish each sequence by shouting out the "oops!" between uncontrollable giggles. Full of color and hilarity, this makes a fun gift for toddlers - ages 18 mo and up.
Book Review: My 2-year-old just "read" this to me! Summary: 5 Stars
My two-year-old daughter and I love this story. I read the story, she supplies the "Oops!" We both laugh at the turkey who can't seem to get his clothes on right. But I was amazed last night when she read the whole book to me, cover to cover! I know she's reading the illustrations, not the words, but it was still a delight. The words are so simple and the pictures are so clear that she finally has a book that she can read to me. And despite its simplicity, the book is still funny every time we re-read it.
Book Review: A family favorite! Summary: 5 Stars
My son is almost 3, and this is his VERY favorite book. I have been reading Boynton books since the book Chocolate, A Consuming Passion reached our house sometime in the 1980s. So of course when my child was born, we bought every Boynton book we could find, and I enjoy reading them almost as much as my son enjoys having them read to him.
Prior to this book, our favorite was The Belly Button Book. But this one makes us laugh out loud, slapping our knees, with every page. What a wonderful experience!
Book Review: the Washington Color School Summary: 5 Stars
Here in the Washington DC metro area, we parents are always trying to impress other parents with how brilliant our children are. This book is key for that purpose. If your toddler knows colors, he or she can "read" this book with an accuracy that will be the envy of all within hearing. The book also, quite practically, teaches the reading eye to start at the top left and move right.
It also teaches the little imp to be a comedian, screaming OOPSIE or WHOOPSIE instead of the orthodox "oops."
