Book Review: Ingenious books

I have just purchased and introduced these books to my 4 years old daughter.
After a little practice she started to read them. What I noticed is that these
books promote memorizing patterns and using phonics at the same time.
My beginning reader can rely on familiar patterns, and have to figure out
only one or two new letter to get a new word. These books started her from knowing her phonics
(not even an excellent, but a good level) to making words of those sounds. I can tell you for sure
that she did not get how to put together words from sounds before Bob books. After going through the first book together she learned how to do it.
Very well done books. I cannot compare to other books of this kind, but Bob books are worth a try.
Book Review: It works!

To begin with, this set of books had been a lifesaver: my son, then 5, started to read with these books. The truth, though, is that he was a bilingual child who already could read Russian and couldn't get any English (we just moved to America from Russia at that time). I desperately tried to find any book with a Phonetical approach to reading; the good friend of mine (bless her heart!) told me about Bob Books. My son started to read immediately!
It was seven years ago, and my son now is one of the best in class in language arts and reads at Young Adult level at least, but I still keep the first set of Bob Books I bought long time ago at Amazon: for my future grandchildren, perhaps?
Anyway, these books work and I have a proof at my own home.
Book Review: Great starter reading

My daughter aged 4 loves these books - it is the one she can read to me with no problems, then we (I) go on to read Richard Scarry - her favourite. Whilst I know these are very basic it gives her great confidence that she can read a book and teaches children to spell words out - which they will use for the rest of their lives not just for a year so please dont underestimate the power of these books - they are to be used in conjunction with other books and I have found them to be exactly what I needed to get my daughter reading. Words Aren't Fair

As a reading specialist, my favorite starter books are the Bob books. There is nothing like simple words with lots of repetition to get kids to the point where they experience success. It might seem too simple to you as adults, but trust me, as a teacher for 40 years, this is the way it starts - with the Bob books. Some kids spend a fair amount of time on these books and that's because they need to. Other kids breeze through them and go on to more complicated stories. But if your child needs reinforcement of the reading code, you can't go wrong with the Bob books.

I have used these books to teach all five of my children to read. I think a 100% success rate says it all! My four girls went from identifying letter sounds, to reading Bob Books, to chapter books. While that is a little unusual, Bob Books were an important step to their reading. My son, I think, is more typical. He learned his sounds and then was ready for Bob. He eagerly gets up every day to do his 'chores' which includes reading Bob Books. The simple sentences, goofy pictures, and progressive approach works well to build skill and confidence. It also gives the child a sense of pride when he has read a whole 'book' by himself. I highly recommend these books. As a side note, I also recommend the Explode the Code series.
