I checked this kit out from the library before buying. We used the ones from the library over and over again so I bought them. I intended to use them with my five year old and she loved them. I was pleasantly surprised when my three year old starting reading from them. They words to read in the books follow a gradual progression and my girls loved reading a book, "all by themselves."Book Review: Bob Books are the Best Beginning Reader Books

I have used Bob Books in teaching 3 of my kids to read so far and they are excellent. They really give kids a sense of accomplishment because they are simple and do-able. Many other "beginning" readers are far too hard for true beginners and thus frustrate the early reader. I have found nothing as simple and easy as the Bob Books for that first step into reading. I am amazed at how these books have helped my 4.5 year old son take off with his reading. He eats these books up, and I have taken to letting him read one in bed at night with a little book light to encourage his reading. He even asks about the punctuation marks and what they mean! By the time he hits kindergarten I think he will be through the whole set!
Book Review: Fun for beginning readers

I looked everywhere for some books that my 5 year old could read as a beginning reader and nothing worked until we found the Bob Books. He loves them. Dr. Seuss was too hard and so was Sandra Boynton. He wanted to feel successful and I wanted him to practice reading. The Bob Books helped in all of these areas. They are fun books too!Book Review: good choice for 5-6 year old

These books have been just right for my six year old son. The content is both challenging and readable. The result is that he is having fun reading them and building confidence. I also like the size of the books, length of the stories and amusing pictures. It all adds up to an enjoyable reading experience for children of this age.
