Book Reviews of Bondage For SexBook Review: Do not buy this book....until its fixed Summary: 2 Stars
I really wanted this to be a great book. I'm a big fan of Chanta, and a bigger fan of sex and bondage. Unfortunately, this is not a book I could recommend to anyone. The organization is simply horrid. The photos are frequently repeated for no reason. They are out of order or just missing. Worse, many are incorrect. The photographs while sexually interesting, they provide no worthwhile educational function.
Rope work of any kind is confusing for most folks. Luckily methods have been developed to teach rope work. The Navys, Coast Guards, Boy Scouts, rock climbers, firefighters, sailors, window washers, etc. of the world have found great methods of teaching safe rope work. They know that photos alone are confusing. Text descriptions are not helpful to most. You need clean, simple drawings or annotated photographs. If they had been included in this book it would have been a winner.
Because of the inherent danger in this type of play there isn't any room for confusion. Life and limbs are easily damaged. Bondage is inherently risky when done correctly. We know that.
When you add sex with bondage the risks increase. There is more weight and forces on the limbs, tissue, rope and hard points. Sexual activity also distracts your attention and distracts the person in bondage. This increases the risks. Given all of this, its imperative that we get the basics absolutely right. That isn't possible with this book.
Hopefully the author will revise future editions. Certainly if there is a Vol. II, this must be corrected. Midori's book is a great example of a correct way to illustrate rope work. There are other good examples in the textbooks of the professions that use rope.
Until this is corrected I strongly recommend staying away from this book. Please Chanta, fix this and provide a needed text.
Book Review: Pretty, but Useless Summary: 1 Stars
Sadly, I cannot recommend this book to anyone. At first, I thought couples interested in light vanilla bondage would find this book useful, but then I realized it is not actually instructional in any useful way, as it lacks reliable visual and written step-by-step instructions. Then I thought a pro at rope bondage could be interested in this book - maybe such a person could improve upon the ties and scenarios presented. But then I realized they would probably already know superior, more restrictive ties because they were educated in proper safety techniques (which this book pretty well avoids). Then I thought, "Hey, maybe someone who likes erotic photography would be interested in this book!" But then I realized that the photos repeated and were generally lackluster shots meant to appear instructive in a book that is missing such instructions. Then I thought, "Well, the crows might like this book because the pages are shiny and glossy, and don't crows like shiny objects?" But then I discovered that crows steal shiny items because they:
1. mistake them for food,
2. want to aggravate humans,
3. enjoy collecting treasures.
But then I realized that this book was not edible nor was it a treasure, so I was not surprised to find that they did not even feign interest in the item. That is when I realized I could not think of anyone who could genuinely use this item, as a book or anything else. So, do not buy it, and if you do, just remember to recycle! (myself and the crows appreciate it)
Book Review: Knotty Review with Hiaku Summary: 5 Stars
Chanta Rose joins the growing list of authors on bondage how-to's with an impeccable background derived from her many years of modelling, directing, rigging and teaching. Arguably, her book will set a new standard for introduction and presentation of one of the most sensuous activities shared between consenting adults. Her prologue and introduction at the beginning is a treasure trove of insight and understanding of her bondage psyche and personality. Focused on the most single intimate aspect with an intimate awareness born of her own personal experiences, Chanta Rose presents the techniques and variations of bondage sex that will enhance anyone's appreciation and application.

Book Review: professional step-by-step instruction - NOT Summary: 2 Stars
I decided to purchase this book after hearing Chanta talk about it during a podcast. I have wanted to explore rope bondage with my partner but was having difficulty making time to learn the how-to details and this sounded like a book that would quickly and easily bring everything together for me. Prior to the purchase I did read the reviews here which were mostly favorable. When I received the book and started going through it I realized the few negative reviews were very accurate in what they had to say - the instructions are confusing and the knots are impossible to figure out based on the text and the pictures. It reminds me of food recipes I've been given where critical ingredients were purposely left out so it was impossible for me to match the taste of the food when made by the original cook. In these cases I always wondered if this was done on purpose due to their insecurities or they were just sloppy and careless with the details.
On the positive, the pictures are very appealing and exciting which actually increases my frustration as I want to learn how to do this more than ever.
Book Review: Combining sex and shibari just got easier... Summary: 5 Stars
I've known Chanta Rose for a very short time, and was surprised when I heard she was coming out with a book. Unfortunately, at the event I heard about it, there were only 20 copies available, and I did not have the chance to buy it, but I was able to look through and read others.
I don't even know what to say about this book it is so amazing. It is a full color book, and the pictures are amazing. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. While most shibari books give you what are generally considered "the basics" of bondage, Chanta's book shows you how to take that one step further and tie your partner up into erotic positions, making them readily available to tease or to *censored*.
Now, I would not consider this a book for people who already have the basics and want to learn more intricate ropework. However, it is great for newbies who don't necessarily want to tie their partner up into a pretty little package, but want to be able to play with them too.
