Book Reviews of Book of the Dead (Kay Scarpetta, No 15)

Book Review: Loyalty Test
Summary: 1 Stars

This novel tests the loyalty of Kay Scarpetta followers. The third-person narration keeps the reader from getting close to the characters. We never get a feel for the killer--can't hate him, can't grudgingly respect the method to his madness, can't feel sorry for him; all because we know next to nothing about him. Can't really care about the victims, either. Of the recurring characters, only Marino (and Rose, to an extent) has texture, and even that is unsatisfying. The writing is cryptic. I could go on, but the bottom line is, you can skip this one. Bad Girls Finish First

Book Review: Yes, It's a Downhill Spiral for Cornwell
Summary: 2 Stars

600+ reviews have said it all. Not sure how there were so many 5 star ratings, unless they're not familiar with earlier Cornwell work. I've been disappointed since blowFly. This book have characters that I can't believe are real and I am embarrassed for them. Additionally, some of the once precise detail is now getting corny. How can some private pathologist, land on an island and start removing bodies without having legal/crime professionals around. Cornwell has just taken so many liberties with her characters. I thought half the cast was going to die at the end of the book. I'll probably give her one more chance on the next book and hope she does better.

Book Review: Dijointed
Summary: 2 Stars

I had not read a Kay Scarpetta thriller for a long time and this was a big disappointment. It meandered all over the place, with characters changed completely for the original development. Everyone has problems but this is one thriller that produced boredom.
I stayed with it, but it wasn't until after 300 pages that the story started to take place. Then it rushed to an ending were nothing was resolved though the murder was caught, but everyone else went on their merry way to sin again.
Cornwell will have to do better than BOOK OF THE DEAD to resurrect what was once a great series.

Book Review: Dead Book
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this book because the blurb on the back says it won the Galaxy British Book Award...what are those Brits thinking? The plot was standard psycho killer (with a twist or two)but the writing. It bordered between competent to tedious, a style somewhere between screen-writing and news reporting. Lazy writing, with much inane dialogue apparently put in for no other reason than to make the book 500 pages long.

This is the second book granted a major award which has greatly disappointed. The other was "The Road". I will ignore all such announcements of awards in the future when buying books and I think others should do the same

Book Review: I should have known better

Does Barnes and Noble have a return policy?? If so... I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!!
One star is only because it was required.
You die-hard Cornball fans need new reads.
I want to post a pic of me dropping the book in my wood burner. At least I got something from the purchase. I am too principled to pass it on.

As I look at my SWATCH purchased at Kohl's in 1982 before I voted...blah blah blah. Oh yes... driving off in my new SSR that matches my husband's HHR but we still have 2 other cars that we keep in a 4-stall radiant heated garage lighted by Westinghouse 100 w bulbs. Grrrrrrrr
Are you impressed???????
