Book Reviews of Book of the Dead (Kay Scarpetta, No 15)Book Review: Ends with a whimper not a bang Summary: 1 Stars
Sad to say, I agree with Terry Mathews and Ellen in Atlanta...we never even saw the "unthinkable" bad guy...there were elements of cannibalism which were never explained or made any sense...too many convolutions and loose ends blowing in the wind of Lucy's helicopter. I read "Trace" and even though it's got bad reader reviews too, I liked it enough to get this one. I read this obsessively to find out whodunit...and when I found out, I didn't feel like I found out...looks like I should go back and read her from the beginning and skip the later ones. Too bad. Her personal life sounds just as convoluted -- take a look at the wikipedia entry. Wow.
Book Review: first time I've given up on a book Summary: 1 Stars
This is a first for me - the first time I've ever given up on a book. I managed to drag myself to almost half way but frankly there are better things to do and better things to read. Awful, awful, awful. This is the first Patricia Cornwell I've read, sorry - almost read, and I can't believe the standard of writing ... pages of dialogue that you have to read 10 times to fathom the sequence, repetition repetition repetition, dreary two dimensional characters and no rhythm or pace to it. I couldn't care less about anyone in the story, least of all whodunnit or why. I think we should introduce the 'no star' category.
Book Review: Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell Summary: 4 Stars
As with Cornwell's previous books, this one gives in-depth and accurate forensic information while developing, building and sustaining tension that does not peak until very near the end. She closes on an optimistic note. Cornwell seems to be working through some of the darkness she developed in the previous 4 books, and there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel. There are explicit forensic and violence scenes, so this book (in fact the entire series) is not what I would recommend for youth under about 17 or 18. Personally, I like Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta books.
Book Review: Never Again! Summary: 1 Stars
Patricia Cornwell used to be among my favorite authors. That changed with "Point of Origin" but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and read "Book of the Dead." This book was poorly written. The story line and characters skipped around too much and the dialog was choppy at best. Baldacci & Patterson have multiple story lines going at once that all weave together, and my recollection is that Cornwell's books used to be the same and impossible to put down. This book was a huge disappointment and waste of time. I'm sad to say Cornwell has lost her touch.
Book Review: The book is dead Summary: 1 Stars
I had read all the others in the series and was so excited for this new book, well let's just say I am still waiting. This book lacked the thrill of the others. There was hardly anything about the murder just little bits here and there. It was mostly about the characters Lucy, Marino, and the relationship with Benton and how messed up they all are.
if you are looking for a new Scarpetta book with meat and intrigue do not buy this. If you are looking for a lackluster book to read then read this. Like I said it is more of a character whine fest.
