Book Reviews of Book of the Dead (Kay Scarpetta, No 15)

Book Review: Giving Up
Summary: 1 Stars

I've read all the Kay Scarpetta books and while the first four or five were excellent, these last few have really gone downhill. I don't like the way the characters have developed; they have all become self-absorbed and like another reviewer mentioned, they are all just weird! I couldn't keep reading this book and got bored with the dialog. I'm reading Scarpetta now and if it doesn't get better, this will be the last Patricia Cornwell book I'll purchase.

Book Review: Don't buy this book!
Summary: 1 Stars

For all the hype about Patricia Cornwell being a great writer, this book was virtually impossible to read. Between the choppiness of the story and lack of intrigue, it is just hard to try to get through (I couldn't). A group of us read the book and those that finished it said that many story lines never got resolved and that the book is not worth finishing. Read the Alex Cross series from James Patterson or the Lincoln Rhyme series from Jeffery Deaver.

Book Review: Difficult at Best!
Summary: 2 Stars

While I respect the author's ability to describe in detail, sometimes to excess, this was not an interesting read for me. I found it extremely difficult to remain focused and found myself having to "go back" in an effort to understand who and what was happening. Too many kooky characters! Grisly it is. Would not purchase this book again and do not recommend it. It sometimes felt like a lesson in forensics and computer wizardry.

Book Review: Who wrote this book?
Summary: 2 Stars

This book is very different from older Cornwell novels. She normally writes a first person, past tense narrative. This is written in an unusual third person, present tense. The characters in Book of the Dead are absolutely cartoonish in behavior and dialogue, unlike the more rational characters in previous books. I find it difficult to believe this is the same author. If this were my first Scarpetta Mystery, I would not read another.

Book Review: Awful!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have no idea what Ms. Cornwell is thinking - her first 5 or 6 books in this series were so good, but they have deteriorated rapidly since then. I don't like any of these people anymore, or care what happens to them. I quit buying the books in hardcover, waiting for the paperback, but I will not buy or read ANY MORE! The plot makes little sense, the solution comes from nowhere, there are loose ends abounding - I could go on and on!
