I bought this because my grandson's doctor said he should be on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. The narrative portion of this book is excellent in explaining the differences that the diet can make. It also is very good at showing how the diet evolved.
Then came the actual diet! Well, it has only been a week or so since I read this and I'm CERTAIN my mind will change in time, but when I read the actual diet, I was overwhelmed at the changes we would have to make. I thought that, even with all the wonderful potential benefits, I didn't know if I could even do half of the diet!
But I've become much more aware since reading the book. The doctor said if we can at least do the Gluten-free and Casein-Free portion to the best of our ability, that would be a major help. I now look at products in the grocery store with a different eye...one reflecting on what I learned in the book. We have even gotten the ingredients for the peanut butter brownies - but we haven't had time to make them yet.
I discovered that Whole Foods has lists of Gluten-free and Casein-free foods that they carry. So I plan a shopping trip there next week.
I believe a few months from now this family will be much closer to the diet than we are now, slowly but surely replacing what I normally buy and fix for dinner. And, chances are, the changes we make will be permanent, even if made slowly.
