Book Reviews of Bridge For DummiesBook Review: Excellent Book For Novices Summary: 5 Stars
This book contains bidding, play of the hand, and defense. Kantar is a clear writer. The type setting for the hands has been improved in this new 2006 edition. It's a much better book than the Idiot's Guide to Bridge. An absolute beginner would probably need help from another player or teacher to get through this book. The trouble with most begining bridge books is that they only have bidding. The play section is first and the book keeps it simple and clear. I like that the No Trump section uses 15-17 HCP and Jacoby Transfers.
Book Review: Bridge for Dummies Summary: 5 Stars
I have been teaching some friends how to play bridge. Before we started I told them to buy the book bridge for dummies. Only 1 out of 5 bought it. I, therefore, bought the book for the other women. I have a copy of it and find it very easy to follow and excellent in advising a person how to bid and how to answer the bidder. I know it will make it easier for my friends to follow along and learn the game faster, even though they really aren't dummies.
Book Review: Terrific Value Summary: 5 Stars
Bridge for Dummies, by Eddie Kantar, has turned out to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. I love bridge, and bought this book as just a refresher type thing. No way! The book is teeming with tips, strategies, and explanations that should be of great value to all but the most advanced players. I consider this to be the best book on bridge in the market today.
Book Review: Bridge for Dummies Summary: 4 Stars
Fun "boobie prize" for a bridge party. I don't know the quality of the information inside, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to give this book to a beginner or intermediate player. I personally have not read the book. I bought it more for the "nature" of the gift than the written information. The people who received it thought it was a very clever gift.
Book Review: Clear & methodic approach Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second book on bridge. I started with "It's Bridge Baby" which I would recommend to a complete novice to the game and/or card playing in general.
Bridge for Dummies is not the comprehensive authority on bridge but it is a solid foundation and intermediate step to solid play based on good fundamentals. I highly recommend it.
