Book Review: Nice Buy -- Just Be Aware
Summary: 4 Stars
Considering the price and the quality, this journal is a good buy. You will be hard-pressed to find a journal of this quality at anywhere near this price ($10). Having purchased it at such a reasonable price as a gift for a preteen, I wasn't going to haggle over the couple of barely-noticeable imperfections on the cover (dings and small marks); it could be that I just happened to get a not-quite-perfect one.
The 160 pages are of fairly heavy weight (perfect for a fountain pen!), and because of the non-slick finish, they are probably easy to write on. The faint lines on the pages are a plus for those who have trouble writing in a straight line -- and most likely, once written on, are barely noticeable.
As an heirloom seamstress, I question the use of the term acid-free "archival paper," which could be somewhat misleading -- although unintentional. Lignin is also a major player in heirloom/archival products, and this journal is not said to be free of lignin. So, if you want a journal that can be handed down from generation to generation, you may want to purchase one that is free of both acid and lignin instead.
The size (6-1/4" w X 8-1/4" h) is very handy, and the fold-over, magnetic closure that protects the edges of the pages is a definite plus.
BOTTOM LINE: This journal is, in my opinion, a great buy for the money and a somewhat impressive gift for the average person. I would have given it five stars had it not been for the couple of barely-noticeable imperfections.
