ESSIAC....The Calling of an angel, by Dr Glum

Early 1994, while we were working in Washington DC, mom called and told me that dad was dying of prostate cancer. We had finished a major project for the government and I was just finishing up a speaking tour regarding the book: America in Depression: The Coming Economic Collapse. Dixie was Office Director for the head honcho at Customs at that time.

In July of "94" when we finally moved to Wichita from the Washington D.C. area to help --dad was totally disabled...down from 180 lbs to less than 100 lbs, and white as a ghost...no healthy color at all. He was in great pain all the time. The cancer had metastasized throughout his entire body. He had tried chemotherapy for about two weeks and quit as it made him feel worse (in my opinion this is what saved him as that stuff is a disastrous poison and destructive to the entire immune system). He begged me to get a gun and put him out of his misery...it was an awful condition.

At that time I was at the end of a book and lecture tour that I had been on for several months and was called to make a presentation in western Kansas. While there, I talked about dad -- he was known in western Kansas (that's where dad's family was from). A man at that meeting gave me a book which was about the life of Rene Caisse. She was a nurse in Canada in the 1920's (my grandmother's) generation and had been working with a doctor who was treating terminal cancer patients. In the book about Rene Caisse, The Calling of an Angel, the author Dr. Glum, spoke of a herbal remedy that Cassie and the doctor used that had remarkable results on a wide range of cancers.

I called the author of the book who was living in California at that time and found that he had gotten the original list of ingredients from one of Rene Caisse's patients then again from relatives while he was doing research on the book in Canada. He sent the list of ingredients to us. I found the ingredients in an herbal shop in Wichita and we made a batch. It cost about $4 to make a gallon in 94.

Dad was 88 when he started taking the Essiac. Within four days the pain was abating and he was feeling better. He was supposed to take one or two doses of the "tea" a day -- he was taking four cups a day: "if a little is good more is better" was his motto. By the end of the month I absolutely knew he was better as he was now complaining about his arthritis. In two more weeks he had no pain. We had engaged the Hospice people to help make dad's last days be better. We had to have dad's oncologist's approval (to get the service the doctor had to declare that you had less than 6 months to live). Dad loved the Hospice people; mostly the nurse who was from Germany. They talked in German and she sung German songs with him. The Hospice people including the nurse saw and documented the dramatic changes in dad's condition.

About ten weeks after dad started taking the Essiac I took him to his cancer doctor. Dad was still quite weak but insisted in going as he wanted the doctor to see what was happening. The doctor was amazed that dad could even get to the office. He was beginning to gain a little weight and was pain free. I was appalled at the treatment the doctor gave dad -- he pounded on dad saying "does that hurt"...bang, bang, bang, "does that hurt"...he was rough. Dad just smiled -- he said that prior to Essiac even laying on bed was a torment and it hurt terribly to turn over.

I know now that pain sufferers do not have to go through such pain. Later on, while we were in Wichita, Dixie and I managed a doctor's Pain Clinic in Hutcheson KS and that was the doctor's specialty...relieving pain for the terminally ill. But, as our prayers were obviously answered with the alternative therapy Essiac, dad began the slow recovery. Within six months Dad was driving his car and going to the mall for short exercises.

Dad lived for 3+ more years, pain-free from the cancer. By then he had gained weight and was up to 155 lbs and not bothered by the prostrate cancer at all. His PSA test count had gone down from the hundreds to single digit. He kept on taking the Essiac daily until he died. The terminal problem was brought on by a case of the shingles. His doctor gave him a shot that was to stave off the shingles and reduce pain associated with it. Dad went into a coma and died in 3 days; age 91 almost 92.

During the four years we were in Wichita taking care of mom and dad, a lady my mother played "Bridge" with had a daughter diagnosed with cancer. The daughter was in Kansas politics and was "Speaker Pro-Tem" in the Kansas state legislature. She had breast cancer. It was announced on the front page of the Wichita newspaper that she was terminally ill and dying. It was big news in Wichita.

My mother insisted that she take the Essiac. Initially she refused saying "How can Essiac help when all that the doctors are doing isn't working?" but her husband insisted; she had 5 children at home at the time. The results were the same as dad's. The cancer disappeared. As far as I know she is still alive in Wichita. She is our age.

There were instances where we told others about Essiac and they had referred it to people in need and the results were the same - lung cancer, breast cancer and others. However, our experiences also include instances where the Essiac did not work. We don't know the details but a young boy and an older man both with different cancers did die of cancer. We don't know if they used the formula or what, but we told them of it.

There are pre-mixed Essiac remedies that do not seem to have the same effect (and which cost a lot more). It is our opinion that the home-made mix is best. It is fresh and it is organic. It will spoil which means that it has natural ingredients and active enzymes.

Since we moved to Pulaski, Iowa we have told a few people about Essiac. Most aren't interested or they just can't believe that a natural remedy will help them. Of three that did use it (all prostate cancer) they are surviving and doing well. One was an Amish man I worked with who lived south of Pulaski. He got himself into about the same condition dad was in before I found out what was going on. He was at home in great pain and could no longer work. Since his recovery, he has moved to Illinois and has started a new "siding and window replacement" business with one of his sons and his grand-sons.

Another neighbor in Pulaski was diagnosed prostrate cancer. He took Essiac and his PSA's returned to normal. By the way Earl now has a Enagic Alkaline water system and is a "new man" of 82. He's been re-building his garage this week. He told me yesterday that he had just applied for a part time job. I don't have space to tell you about the water system but we have one and its great.

His energy came back and now he is up and around doing stuff around the yard. Still another person who lives in a small town nearby recently started using the Essiac had his PSA's cut in half in a week.

I had a bout with melanoma skin cancer in 1985 so Dixie and I take a dose of ESSIAC about every three months for prevention. We feel its like chicken soup - it can't hurt. If you are interested in more details let me know. We don't sell it but you can get the ingredients and make the tea easy enough yourself. It costs us about $9.00 per gallon now. We get the herbs in Fairfield, Iowa -- actually its packaged up now so you don't have to buy each herb individually.

I have been talking to Dr Mitzer in Bloomfield, IA who told me he, as a young medical student, heard a lecture from a member of the famous Hoxie Clinic. Hoxie was the name of the Chiropractor who observed that when his horse which had been sick with cancer ate certain "weeds" in the pasture, the cancer went away. He experimented with other animals that had cancer and it continued to work. He began giving the "Hoxie" formula to people with cancer and they got well -- and the medical establishment ran him out of Iowa (or go to jail for practicing medicine without a license). Eventually Dr Hoxie set up a clinic in Mexico. I don't know what the "hoxie" formula is made up of but you may want to look it up. It may have the same ingredients as ESSIAC.

By the way Essiac, as well as everything else works best with copious amounts of prayer!

One further thing: The Enzyme Factor, by Dr Hiromi Shinya, MD is a book everyone who has battled cancer should read. Dr Shinya's cancer patients have had 0% recurrence.

God's love to you.

Summary of Calling of an Angel

Every year medical science spends billions of dollars in a desperate search for the cure--or cures--for cancer. And yet, despite the use of increasingly expensive and dangerous technology and drugs, we never seem to get any closer to sparing mankind from our most dreaded and deadly disease. Is it possible that the answer to our prayers about treating cancer has been available to us all along, a gift from nature, hidden in the life-giving properties of certain plants that grow wild all over North America? The answer is yes. For more than 50 years, Rene Caisse, a nurse in Canada, successfully treated thousands of cancer patients with a simple herbal formula that was discovered and first used long ago by the Indians. Rene Caisse brewed the herbs into a tea that she called Essiac, and many of her patients and their families and friends swore that Essiac's healing--and pain-relief--powers were nothing short of miraculous. Distinguished physicians--from the 1930s until the 1980s--have spoken out in favor of Essiac's value as a cancer treatment.
