I give this book a "U" for unsatisfactory. It has NO information
on canning meat, poultry or fish !!! It recommends another book
- apparently the author thinks it's way too hard and scary to can
meat. It isn't - buy another book with more practical information
in it.

I bought this book for my 56 year old brother who had never canned before, and wanted to learn. He said he read it from front to back and just loved it. It taught him everything he needed to know about canning, and he has canned quite a lot this summer. Excellent book to learn about canning.

I would rate the ball blue book as #1, but this is up there as an all around book on canning & preserving. I have been canning for many, many years & this book gives good advice for novice or experienced canners!!Buy it you won't be sorry to have added this to your food preservation library!!

as always the 'for dummies' series is always full of interesting, educational information without being boring. alot of the info in the book can be found on the fda websites for free download, but it's got some good solid info and makes a nice gift for the novice canner.
Book Review: The perfect book for canning dummies Summary: 5 Stars
If you dont know how or know little about canning, then this book is for you. It was very educational and helped us tremendously. We had to use less salt in the pickle recipies, but other than that we had no problems. It has a permanent spot with our canning supplies.
