Book Reviews of Careless in Red (Inspector Lynley)Book Review: Inspector Lynley Summary: 3 Stars
This most recent offering in the series focused on Inspector Lynley of Scotland Yard is one of the best. It combines the stories of three different families and their lives on the Cornwall coast in a way that captures the reader. In addition there is the ongoing trauma of the life of the Inspector as he battles with the conflict between grief over the loss of his wife and his dedication to his profession. The connection between all of the character is the death of Santor Kerne.
Book Review: Finally the cure for insomnia Summary: 1 Stars
I gave it 1 star because you have to give at least one. Otherwise, it would be no stars. The most boring book I have ever read. Too long, too many characters, too many endless meaningless descriptions, too boring. And after 721 pages we still don't know who killed Santo or why. Towards the end we get a semi-confession, but like the rest of the book it is too long and meaningless and comes to nothing. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK.
Book Review: Good story, great writing Summary: 5 Stars
George is a masterful writer and stylist. Her books offer a lesson on how to write, crime novel or not. They are refreshing compared to almost all of the mystery and crime writing, in the US, anyway. The stuff is complete trash churned out in factories one a month.. Thanks goodness there are a few practitioners, like George, who know how to write.
Book Review: Surfing & a Mystery Summary: 5 Stars
George wove a fantastic whodunit centered around the small surfing towns of Cornwall, England. Excellent well drawn characters, offering page turning excitement. One of her best Inspector Lynley/Havers stories to date, and you end up learning all about the surfing communities of England (who knew they existed)!
Book Review: She's back - almost Summary: 3 Stars
After the dreadful "What Came Before He Shot Her", I was really anticipating Elizabeth George getting her stride back with this latest book.
She's not quite there yet. I usually rip through a new E.G. book in one sitting - this one took me 5 days - and it was VERY easy to put down.
