Book Reviews of Carrion ComfortBook Review: Well written but a disapointing story. Summary: 2 Stars
Okay, the biggest problem I had with this novel has nothing to do with Dan Simmons and everything to do with the person who decided to include the SF Chronicle blurb on the front which says "in the tradition of King's "The Stand." That is why I bought the book. Turned out that it wasn't ANYTHING like "The Stand," not even close. I think Simmons is a great writer, but I was terribly disapointed with this book. Maybe if I hadn't known anything about I might not have had expectations I might have enjoyed it more. Or perhaps if someone had edited out about 100 pages I might have enjoyed it more. That said, I am still quite impressed with Simmons' writing and will continue to read other novels he has written. Unless, of course, someon lies on the cover of the paperback...
Book Review: frighteningly believable Summary: 5 Stars
i really enoyed carrion comfort. it makes the reader think, that there possibly could be people like melanie, willi, nina, arnold barent, tony harod, and james sutter. that they really could exist. those particular people kept their mind control powers a secret except in their own group.i like the way the theme of human dominance was displayed.a group of fictional characters in carrion comfort ,that had this power were in high powered positions. they worked for the white house ,which makes us wonder, if senators and politicians really have this power.i enjoyed the conflict on dollman island ,in the last part of the novel. i also enjoyed the character ,melanie fuller. an alternate title of this book should be" don't mess with melanie"
Book Review: Wow...a brutal horror epic from beginning to end! Summary: 5 Stars
Carrion Comfort is truly an epic horror novel that pulls no punches. The imagery, the characters (some dying unexpectedly), the action, the suspense...this book has it all!! Yes, the book could have been shorter, and yes, I'm not quite sure I bought into Saul Laski and his arc...but other than those minor nitpicks, I loved this book!!! Melanie Fulle, Willie Borden, C. Barent Fuller, Bobby Joe, and let's not forget the most despicable Hollywood producer of all time :) Truly memorable characters that engage in truly despicable acts of violence...exactly what one would expect from a true horror classic!!!! And I love the idea of these "mind vampires" and their abilities...creepy to say the least.
Highly recommended!!
Book Review: The biggest, the boldest, simply the best Summary: 5 Stars
An awesome epic of masterful execution that completely overwhelms the reader. One of my very favorite books. Simmons creates a massive cast of characters, some of whom I loved and a few I loved to hate, but by the end I cared so deeply about ALL of them that I was desperately involved in all of their fates. The action is told in a style of shifting viewpoint that time and again tricks you from the truth of what is wildly unfolding until the exact moment Simmons wants you to know--usually when you're about ten heartbeats from exploding. Seething with power and achievement, rich with intelligence and compassion, Carrion Comfort travels the globe and with an unflinching eye probes the human soul.
Book Review: My eighth and last DS book. I give up. -20 Summary: 1 Stars
Mind vampires who instead of actual blood feed on violence and death, they even compete (how sporting). Sheeeez! What a go no where idea. An old used up idea. I got as far as the 2nd chap. and took it back to the library, along with Song of Kali and Summer of Night, both stinkers. DS wrote one good book, Children of the Night. Everything else he has written, that I've read, should of been edited by half and rewritten by 3/4. DS writes likes he's in a manic state. Just words on paper, that's all his books are -- no depth, no believable plots/characters/feeling and zero magic. Dead writing. I kept trying DSs books because of all the positive reviews but geez I don't see what's to like.
